Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history in cricket on 19th April 2025 when he became the youngest IPL player to step out to play at a very young age of 14 years and 23 days old. He played for the Rajasthan Royals against the Lucknow Super Giants, left-handed opener Vaibhav hitting a six off the first ball he faced, which was bowled by experienced pacerShardul Thakur.

Suryavanshi's belligerent method of batting was evident as he continued scoring 34 runs of 20 balls, including three sixes, in a heart-stopping 85-run opening wicket partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Royals lost by two runs, perhaps, but the teenager's performance was one of hope and faith in the future of the team.

International Appreciation: Sundar Pichai's Praise

Suryavanshi's outstanding performance was not the sole one to astonish the cricket world stunned by itself. Google CEO Sundar Pichai also woke up to a surprise on social media when he posted, "Woke up to watch an 8th grader play in the IPL!!!! What a debut!". Pichai's tweet caught the world's wonder at the kid sensation's arrival into international cricket.

Suryavanshi started his cricketing career at the age of nine from Bihar's Samastipur district, home town Tajpur, under the coaching of his father. Eventually his natural talent was exposed as he debuted in first-class cricket for Bihar at the age of 12. He was already a news headline at the age of just 13 years because he had scored a century off 58 balls for the Indian Under-19 team playing against Australia, fastest Indian century in junior Tests.

It was during November 2024 that Rajasthan Royals discovered his talent and picked him up for ₹1.1 crore, a young cricketer until now till date to join an IPL contract at the same time.

Suryavanshi's aggressive batting and calm head under pressure have been likened to cricketing legends. The fact that he does it on this grand stage at a mere young age is a sign of greater things, something monumental. With each learning curve, the masses and the pundits await his contribution to Indian cricket.

While his inaugural game was lost by a narrow margin to Rajasthan Royals, Suryavanshi's own performance has set the stage for a successful and rewarding career.
