    PM Narendra Modi Meets Giorgia Meloni during G20 Summit in Brazil, Hails India-Italy Friendship

    On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Italian counterpart Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Both of them lauded the friendship between the two nations, India and Italy and highlighted their strategic partnerships.

    The G20 Summit is being held on November 18 and 19, 2024. It has brought together leaders from the world’s major economies to discuss pressing global issues.

    In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) Italian PM Meloni described it as “Always a great pleasure to meet the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on the occasion of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro”, she said in a post on X.

    The Indian Prime Minister Modi said that their discussions with Giorgia Meloni focused on strengthening ties in defense, security, trade and technology. He remarked, “India-Italy friendship can greatly contribute to a better place”.

    “Glad to have met Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the Rio de Janeiro G20 Summit. Our talks centered around deepening ties in defense, security, trade and technology. We also discussed ways to boost cooperation in culture, education and other such areas. India-Italy friendship can greatly contribute to a better planet,” Modi mentioned in a social media post on platform X.

    What’s India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29?

    Notably, the significant outcome of their discussions was the announcement of India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan for 2025-2029. This plan emphasizes the importance of coproduction, industrial partnerships, manufacturing, clean energy and research partnerships. It is developed in order to strengthen and facilitate the economies and people of both countries.

    Meloni stressed that the two nations aimed to strengthen their partnership, not only for mutual benefit but also in support of shared values such as democracy, the rule of law and sustainable development.

    PM Modi was also impressed to see the growing friendship between the two nations, particularly in sectors involving defense, security, trade and technology. He also commended the longstanding relations between India and Italy, involving their collaboration and contribution to the better world.

    Meeting with Other Nation Leaders at 19th G20 Summit

    These discussions were a part of series of bilateral meetings held by the Indian Prime Minister Modi at the 19th G20 summit. PM Modi also met other significant leaders from various nations including Indonesia, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. He explored the opportunities for collaboration in areas of defense, security and energy.

    Modi also held a bilateral meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr store. According to the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, PM Modi assured Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expanding India-Indonesian strategic partnership.

    UK PM Keir Stammer to relaunch Trade Talks with India

    After holding a bilateral meeting with PM Modi, the UK Prime Minister Keir Stammer announced to relaunch the trade talks with India in the new year. As per the reports, UK is expected to seek a strategic partnership with India, including a trade agreement. This agreement will be based on focusing in areas such as security, education, technology and climate change.

    “For India, the Comprehensive Strategic partnership with the UK is of immense priority. In the coming years, we are eager to work closely in areas such as technology, security, and innovation. We also want to add strength to trade as well as cultural linkages,” he added.

    India-France Discussions on space and energy sectors

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met French President Emmanuel Macron and discussed ways to keep working closely in sectors such as space, energy and Artificial Intelligence.

    “It is always a matter of immense joy to meet my friend, President Emmanuel Macron. We talked about how India and France will keep working closely in sectors like space, energy, AI and other such futuristic areas. Our nations will also work closely to enhance people-to-people linkages,” PM Modi noted on his official X handle along with some glimpses of his meetings with Macron.
