The Punjab Government will make all verification-related services available online. The initiative marks the end of offline verification systems starting January 1, 2025. The significant initiative was revealed by Punjab’s Cabinet Minister Aman Arora in Chandigarh. He also launched a project that provides six categories of online verification services.

The shift to online verification services aims to remove the need for in-person visits to government offices. The shift will save time and money for citizens and enhance transparency. The initiative positions Punjab as the first state in India to fully digitize its verification processes.

Which Key Services Are Being Digitized in Punjab’s Governance Overhaul?

Preparations are underway to digitize 95 services provided by various departments. The departments include Revenue Department, Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, and the Electricity Department. The extensive digitization initiative is designed to enhance efficiency and improve public access to these services.

How Will the New System Work to Simplify Public Service Access?

The government is introducing a WhatsApp chatbot service to improve accessibility. The service enables citizens to book appointments from home simply by messaging their requirements on WhatsApp. Appointments will be issued along with an online token, and the entire process will be conducted in Punjabi, ensuring user convenience.

How Does Punjab’s New System Streamline Verification Through Local Officials?

The system integrates local officials such as patwaris, sarpanches, and councilors. Once an online application is submitted, the verification request is directed to the patwari. The patwari will then forward it to the relevant sarpanch or counselor for processing. The efficient process is expected to reduce the burden on citizens who previously endured a time-consuming and complicated process requiring multiple visits to obtain signatures from local officials.

How Will Punjab’s Digitized System Address Delays in Document Verification?

Previously, citizens often had to meet with local sarpanches or other officials for the verification of documents, leading to delays and inconvenience. The new initiative aims to resolve these challenges by digitizing the entire verification process. The project includes essential certificates such as resident certificates, caste certificates, income certificates, EWS certificates, and Dogra certificates.

How Is Punjab’s Shift to Digital Services Setting a Precedent for Other States?

The government has already implemented an extensive setup for the e-services after a study tour of southern states by Punjab ministers. Committed to creating a truly digital Punjab, the government is facilitating access to services from the comfort of their homes. Citizens can now apply at a Sewa Kendra or simply by calling the helpline number 1076. Certificates will be delivered directly to their phones via SMS or WhatsApp.
