In a shocking incident in Moga, Punjab, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) groom was left stranded with his wedding deceit after being duped by a woman he met on Instagram. The groom, 24-year-old Deepak Kumar, a laborer from Dubai, had been in a long-distance relationship with a woman, Manpreet Kaur for three years. They had never met in person.

What Went Wrong with Deepak Kumar’s Wedding Plans in Moga?

Deepak returned to Punjab from Dubai about a month ago to make arrangements for his wedding. On Friday, December 6, 2024, he traveled from his village Mandiali in Jalandhar district to Moga City. Kumar was accompanied by a baraat of at least 150 guests, including relatives and friends. The wedding was planned to be held at a venue named “Rose Garden Palace,” which turned out to be non-existent.

What Actions Did the Groom Took After Wedding Baraat Waited for Hours??

Upon reaching Moga around noon, Deepak made several calls to Manpreet. Initially, she responded, saying some of her relatives would come to guide the baraat to the marriage venue. However, by 5 PM, there was still no sign of anyone, and later she switched off her phone. After waiting for over five hours, Deepak and his family went to the local police station to file a complaint against Manpreet Kaur and her family.

What did Deepak Kumar’s Complaint About the Wedding Deceit Include?

Deepak told the police that he had met Manpreet Kaur on Instagram three years ago. They started chatting, entered a long-distance relationship, and eventually decided to get married. Their parents had also spoken over the phone, after which the wedding was fixed for December 6. Additionally, Deepak mentioned that he had transferred IN ₹50,000 to Manpreet after she asked for help with wedding expenses.

How Did Deepak’s Family React to the Deceptive Wedding Plans?

Deepak’s father, Prem Chand, expressed his disappointment and frustration. He stated that they had fixed the marriage after speaking to the bride’s mother over the phone. Prem Chand added that they had never met anyone from her family in person. He mentioned that they had proposed bringing only just 5-10 people, but Manpreet’s family insisted on a baraat of 150 guests. The family invested a lot in decorating vehicles, arranging sweets, and hiring a photographer, only to find out that the venue did not exist.

How Can Police Track Down the Woman Behind the Wedding Deceit?

The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Moga Assistant Sub-Inspector Harjinder Singh stated that they have received a complaint from Deepak and are conducting a thorough inquiry.
