Days after surviving an assassination attempt on his life, former Punjab Chief Minister and Leader of Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, continues with his religious penance on the seventh day at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib to perform Sewa.
Despite being bound to a wheelchair, wearing a blue sewadar uniform, and carrying a spear in his hand, Sukhbir Singh Badal continues to perform his service as announced by Akal Takht. With Z plus protection, he devotedly performed his duties as a sewadar at the premises of the Gurudwara and even washed dishes in the community kitchen.

Why is Sukhbir Singh Badal performing Sewa?
He performed all these duties as a part of his religious penance announced by Akal Takht, a prominent confluence of Sikhs, for the mistakes committed by him and his governance during his tenure from 2007 to 2017.
Besides performing Sewa at the Golden Temple, the Akal Takht has asked Badal to perform services at Takht Kesgarh Sahib, Takht Damdama Sahib, and Darbar Sahib in Muktsar and Fatehgarh Sahib for two days each.
This order comes after the former CM admitted his religious misconduct in connection with the Sacrilege case of the Guru Granth Sahib in 2015. He was announced as ‘tankhaiyaa,’ someone who violates Sikh religious code.
As a part of religious penance, Badal and other Shiromani Akali Dal leaders were earlier asked to clean public bathrooms at the Golden Temple. They were also asked to wash utensils and listen to Gurbani.
Assassination Attempt on Sukhbir Singh Badal
On the second day of his penance at the Golden Temple on Wednesday, Badal had a narrow escape after a former Khalistan terrorist fired at him from a closed range. The assailant identified as Narain Singh Chaura approached Badal and fired a shot. Fortunately, the bullet missed the shot and got stuck to the wall. However, security personnel and quick bystanders prevented further harm, and the assailant, Chaura, was detained by the authorities immediately.
Meanwhile, the motive behind this assassination attempts on Sukhbir Singh Badal by Narain Singh is still under process. In a preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that Narain Singh had connections with the Khalistan Group.
Who is Narain Singh Chaura?
The shooter, Narain Singh Chaura, is reportedly a resident of Dera Baba Nanak. As per Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, he is a former terrorist and has a criminal history. An FIR has been registered against him, and the weapon has been recovered.
He was detained after being overpowered by the security personnel present in plain clothes. The incident has been captured, showing footage of the shooter approaching Badal, who was seated in a wheelchair due to a fractured leg. A man took a gun from his pocket. Meanwhile, a man near Badal immediately intervened by quickly grabbing the hands of the attacker.
