United States President-elect Donald Trump revealed the new addition to his legal team on Monday. The president announced Harmeet K Dhillon, an Indian-origin attorney who will now lead the Department of Justice’s civil rights division.
With Harmeet’s nomination as Assistant attorney general, there are now four Indian-origin nominees in Trump’s cabinet, following Kash Patel, Tulsi Gabbard, and Vivek Ramaswamy.

Trump through a social media post on X announced this nomination. The President wrote, “I am pleased to nominate Harmeet K. Dhillon as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice.”

“Throughout her career, Harmeet has stood up consistently to protect our cherished Civil Liberties, including taking on Big Tech for censoring our Free Speech, representing Christians who were prevented from praying together during COVID, and suing corporations who use woke policies to discriminate against their workers,” the US President added lauding praise on Harmeet.
Harmeet will work alongside Pam Bondi, appointed as General Attorney by Trump.

Responding to the post of the President, Dhillon took to her social media and thanked the Republican leader, her parents, brother, and husband.

Dhillon was born in 1969 in Chandigarh, India. At the age of two, she relocated to the US with her family. Dhillon grew up in a Sikh family in rural North Carolina before shifting to New York City.
She graduated from Dartmouth College with degrees in Classical Studies and English. Later, she earned her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Here she also served on the editorial board of the Virginia Law Review.
Early in her career, Dhillon clerked with Judge Paul V Niemeyer of the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and worked in the Constitutional Torts Section of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. She later had extensive experience at the renowned firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
