On 21st December 2024, Russia’s Kazan witnessed a frightening episode of terror attack. The city experienced a major strike, where eight drones hit the high-rise buildings. The attacks happened in quick succession, impacting several multi-story buildings.  Another chilling fact about this attack is said to be its resemblance to the 9/11 attack.

The press service of Tatarstan’s governor, Rustam Minnikhanov, reported that the city of Kazan was struck by eight drones. According to the statement, six of the drones targeted residential buildings, one hit an industrial facility, and one was shot down over a river.

Is Ukraine Behind the Kazan Attack?

The Russian administration accused Ukraine as the mastermind of the assault. Reports cited that Kazan authorities promptly launched an emergency rescue effort to evacuate the residents from the buildings. Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the attack.

    The Attack Affected Airport Operations

Following the major drone strike, Russian aviation authority, Rosaviatsia announced that Kazan airport had temporarily halted operations. Additionally, restrictions were also imposed at Izhevsk airport. The Russian news reported that, Kazan was partially protected by Russian air defenses, with one drone being shot down over the city. Unfortunately, other drones were able to escape the defenses and reached their targets resulting in the chaos.

    ‘More Destruction for Ukraine’,…President Putin

On December 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Ukraine of “more destruction” following a drone attack on multiple buildings in Kazan. In a video address to Tatarstan’s local leader, Putin stated, “Whoever, and however much they try to destroy, they will face many times more destruction themselves and will regret what they are trying to do in our country.”

However, Kyiv has yet not officially took the responsibility of the attack.
