Kejriwal’s Free Bus Service: Women Can Travel Free, but Children to Buy Tickets

    Read Later

Arvind Kejriwal’s free bus service, known as the ‘Pink Ticket,’ was launched in the national capital in 2019. Soon the scheme has been extended over many states. This initiative has significantly impacted the women and students by enabling them to avail the bus services without paying any expense.

This scheme has empowered millions of women by making public transport more accessible and safer. Many women use the savings from free commuting to support their families and reduce the financial burdens of the passengers. Through this scheme, around 54% are allocating these savings to household expenses and 50% are setting aside funds for emergencies.

While free bus services offer numerous benefits, there are also some shortcomings of the scheme, such as overcrowding, reduced revenue, sustainability, and potential misuse. The increased demands among the passengers many times resulted in overcrowded buses. This makes the travel experience uncomfortable for passengers, leading to longer wait times and delays. Many times, these services are being misused by women, who do not necessarily need them, leading to certain conflicts.

    Some Similar Incidents Highlighted

There have been many instances observed where these free bus services caused feuds among the passengers, sometimes bus conductors and drivers. For an instance, previously an incident has been highlighted where some women are using cuss words against the government, as there were no free bus services available. She came at 4 pm and got frustrated that there were no buses even at 9 pm. The video of the women has been going viral over the internet, capturing massive reactions.

In the wake of the incident, another video has come to light, where a woman was seen involving in an altercation with the bus conductor to avail free bus service for her son. The woman was travelling with her son. She was asked to pay for her son’s ticket, which she refused to pay. The situation turned into a heated argument between the woman passenger and the bus conductor. While the innocent child was seen having embarrassment from the situation. He was seen requesting his mother to pay for his ticket.

The video was posted by NCM India Council for Men’s Affairs. It slammed Arvind Kejriwal, stating, “Nowhere else in the world will you witness such rules where adult-earning women can travel free but children will have to buy tickets. See the embarrassment of this innocent child that he faced because of this drama. @ArvindKejriwal what kind of policy is this?”

    Netizens Reactions

Meanwhile, the video got several mixed reactions, with users calling the act shameful and pathetic.

“That’s shameful and pathetic. The free ticket to women was wrong to start with. If you want to give. Give them to all children aged under 15.” A user stated.

“Kid cannot vote, women can. Now the reason for such a rule will be clear. Tell Pappu you can make him next PM if he sells J&K to Pak. He will agree. His motto, “Will do anything to come to power, even if it is bad for the country,” another user added.

“I feel sorry for the boy. He is embarrassed by the scene created by his pathetic mother,” the third user reacted.
