In a surprising turn of events, a truck driver in Punjab won a lottery of a whopping INR 10 crore in the Punjab State Dear Lohri Makar Sankranti Bumper 2025. The results of the draw were announced on the same day, i.e., on Saturday, January 20, 2025, in Ludhiana, Punjab.
The winner of the lottery was Harpinder Singh, who is a resident of Barwa Village in Nurpur Bedi. He works as a truck driver in Kuwait and had bought 10 tickets for Rs 500 when he was home for holidays. Singh has been buying lottery tickets for nearly 15 years and finally hit a jackpot of Rs 10 crore.
Notably, so far this is the biggest prize money to be awarded in a lottery in Punjab so far.
“I cannot believe my luck. It is by sheer grace of God that I have won such a big amount. I feel one should buy a ticket at least once in their lifetime,” said Harpinder Singh after winning the lottery.
A Truck Driver in Kuwait
This is to be noted that Harpinder Singh had to take loans to fund his move to Kuwait for work purposes. He faced several struggles when his son Devinder Singh lost his left arm in an accident. With this prize money, Harpinder plans to set up a business for himself, improve his living conditions, pay off his debts, and secure a better future for his family.
Harpinder’s son, Devinder, further also expressed his hope that this prize money would also help him to receive improved medical care, enabling him to lead a normal life.
“This blessing has given our family new hope,” he added.
Ticket vendor to get Rs 25 lakh
Additionally, this winning ticket was purchased from the Ashoka Lottery Stall at the Old Bus Stand in Rupnagar. The vendor stands to receive Rs 25 lakhs in commission. He expressed his happiness, adding, “This is a proud moment for our stall and the entire district,” he added.
“Thirty percent of the prize money will be deducted as tax at source along with additional miscellaneous taxes. Harpinder, reflecting on his good fortune, summed it up with a smile.
“Who doesn’t need money? But this win means so much more—it’s a new chapter for our family.”
