The 40-year old man, a pune based CA, came in the contacted with the disease in pune. He passed away in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, where he was visiting his native village for personal work. He was suffering from diarrhea for few days. After feeling extreme weakness, he was admitted in a private hospital in Solapur where the doctor diagnosed him with GBS.
What are the symptoms of the decreased?
The deceased had symptoms of cold, cough, experienced breathing difficulties and was hospitalized for same on January 18 in a private hospital in Solapur. He was first placed in the ICU ward but later shifted to a regular room after showing improvement. However, his health started deteriorating with difficulty in breathing and he later passed away in the hospital’s ICU unit where he had been readmitted. The deceased also experienced paralysis in his limbs, prior to his demise.
“ The patient, suffering from symptoms like breathlessness, weakness in lower limbs, and diarrhea was admitted to a private hospital in solapur, on January 18th , as he was on ventilator support on and off. He died on Sunday”, solapur Government Medical Collage Dean Dr. Sanjiv Thakur said.
The primary report indicated the death was due to GBS, he said, adding the blood samples of the man have been sent to the city-based National Institute of Virology (NIV) for further examination.

Guillain Barre Syndrome is rare. Most cases follow an infection with a virus or bacteria. This leads the immune system to attack body itself. Infection with the bacteria Campylobacter jejuni, which causes gastroenteritis, including symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, is one of the common risk factors for GBS.

Initially Guillain Barre syndrome is a rare occurrence but it can be fatal for some patients.
GBS can occur within 1 to 3 weeks of the infection caused by Campylobacter jejuni.
The doctors have urged people to seek medical assistance when they see symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever and nausea or vomiting.
Signs like sudden weakness in the legs or arms, difficulty walking or numbness and persistent diarrhea especially if it is bloody.
