    Kabaddi Player Shot in Kharar Over Personal Enmity; Suspects Flee the Scene

    A victim was shot dead at Kharar in Punjab near an eating joint in Shivjot Enclave. According to the information revealed by the police, the man who died was Gurpreet Singh, residing in Bathinda. He was a Kabaddi player and a gym trainer who used to drive cabs in the city.

    The police investigations reveal that the assailants had switched their vehicles about 110 km away while escaping after murdering. According to the explanation given by the police, after firing at the victim the accused fled in a White Ford Endeavor after they saw people gathered at the crime scene. 

    They drove towards Phagwara where they parked the vehicle at the Pandwa village and switched to Maruri Brezza, which was one of the associate’s cars of the accused before continuing their run.

    Accused Were Already Criminals

    The Kharar police have booked four accused following the murder on Saturday. The accused include Amrit of Phillaur, Akash and his brother Onkar Singh of Phagwara, Prince also from Phagwara. According to the police, these accused are already booked under another criminal case.

    As the murder involves a large number of accused, a team led by DSP Karan Sandhu and Kharar SHO Ajitesh Kaushal have traced the Ford Endeavour. They have also recovered some clothes of the accused by using human and technical intelligence

    Victim Too Attacked

    The wife of the deceased Harpreet Kaur told Police that her husband (Gurpreet) and his friend Sumel Bansal were attending a wedding that day at Desu Majra. During the function, both of them went outside to have food. When the two friends reached the mentioned eating joint, the accused were already present there.

    A heated argument started between the two groups that soon turned into a physical confrontation. Amid this, the victim attacked one of the accused with a sharp-edged weapon causing him multiple injuries. This led one of the accused to fire at the victim and the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.

    According to one of the cops, the two groups initially swung chairs upon each other after which it turned into fatal gunshots leading to the death of a victim. Three gunshots were fired at the victim with a .32 bore weapon.

    Police Searched for Clues

    As one of the accused got injured, the police conducted a thorough search at the hospitals in and around the Kharar region to trace the accused. Mohali, Rupnagar, Khanna, and Ludhiana were traced. Police suspect that the accused would be hiding in the Dhoaba region in Punjab. The accused were traced with the help of one of the accused previous jail records where he boasted about his criminal past during the brawl. This very much helped the police to trace the accused.

    Accused To Be Arrested Soon

    DSP Karan Sandhu who is dealing with the case said that the police had enough clues and would catch the accused very soon. All accused are facing charges under Sections 103 (2) (murder) and 191(3) (rioting with a deadly weapon) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), besides relevant sections of the Arms Act.
