Rising economic standards and the rising economy have pushed few people to commit various crimes for their living. A professional thief who is a tea shop owner got arrested in Bengaluru for about 150 thefts he has committed so far. Not only this, he has also gifted a Rs 3 crores worth house to his girlfriend
The Bengaluru police have arrested Panchakari Swami, a professional burglar for committing more than 150 thefts. He is known to break locked homes with precision and steal money, gold, and any valuable items from the lockers and cupboards of the house.
He has also spent the stolen money of about Rs 3 crore to buy a lavish home for his girlfriend, who resides in Kolkata. His family is settled in Maharashtra where he has his mother, his wife, and a child.
How Did Swami Turn Into A Thief?
According to the sources, Swami’s criminal life began in his teenage itself. His father was an employee in the Indian Railways and after his demise, his mother got that job. Though his family had a decent government job, Swami could not follow a regular career path and chose burglary and turned into a thief. By 2009, he had mastered the art of breaking into locked homes, stealing crores through his thefts.
He gifted a lavish house that cost Rs 3 crore to his girlfriend in Kolkata in the year 2016 and also gifted her an aquarium worth Rs 22 lakhs on her birthday.
Lots of Money, But a Small House
Though Swami has looted crores of money and has spent that lavishly on his girlfriend, he still lives in a 400 sq ft house that has been registered in his mother’s name. The funniest part is that the house was under a bank loan and was put up for auction due to unpaid loans. He was first arrested in Gujarat in the year 2016 and spent 6 years in the Sabarmati jail.
Arrested In Bengaluru
Post his release, he shifted to Bengaluru in 2024 to resume his operations. Before his arrest in 2016, he had once stolen in Bengaluru in 2010 and returned to the city on his partner’s suggestion. He operated in various states including Rajasthan, Telangana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
He was trying to escape with 400 grams of gold and silver when the Bengaluru police caught him red-handed. His accomplice could not be caught, and the police launched a manhunt to catch him. Police have recovered 180 grams of gold and 150 grams of silver from Swami after his arrest.
According to the reports from the police, it is known that Swami has been involved in more than 180 cases across multiple states. Before his recent arrest, he was last arrested by the Madiwala police on January 9, 2024. He followed a unique style of stealing where he would change his clothes immediately in the streets after finishing one theft.
He has become one of the most infamous thieves in recent times who has shocked the entire police department with the thefts he has committed across various states, with a limited number of people involved.
