Eleven people were killed in a shooting in Orebro, Sweden, which is considered the worst shooting incident in the country’s history. The shooter has been apprehended and is also reported to be dead, with more details emerging.

A shooting incident occurred on the campus of Risbergska School, located in Orebro, Sweden.  According to a police report, the incident was reported at 12:33 local time (GMT 11:33) on February 4. This school primarily serves adult students who have not completed their primary or secondary education, immigrants, and people with intellectual disabilities.

A total of 11 people were killed, including the gunman. According to the head of the city police, Roberto Eid Forest. According to the first police briefing, only five people were injured. However, the regional authorities came up with several six wounded, of which four were women and two men. Five of these needed surgery for the gunshot and are in serious condition at Orebro University Hospital.
The police also cleared that there was no such “ideological motive” behind the shootout.

    The witnesses
“I think of my students. Many of them have fled from countries where things like this happen, and now, they experience it here. It is horrible.” Said Maria Pegado, a 54-year-old teacher at the school. She explained the incident; someone opened her classroom door and shouted to get out, and the students and she started running out of the school to save their lives. She added, “Then I heard two shots but we made it out. We were close to the school entrance. I saw people dragging injured out, first one, then another. I realized it was very serious.”
Andreas Sundling who was sheltering in a classroom during the incident said, “We heard three bangs and loud screams,”

“There were a few shots first in short succession, a short pause, and then a few more”, said the present teacher Lena Warenmark to SVT a public broadcaster.
Explaining the scare of the incident, Ali Elmokad said, “What she saw was so terrible. She only saw people lying on the floor, injured, and blood everywhere.” He was at the hospital to see his lost cousin and his friend attended the school during the incident.

    The Gunman
The suspected gunman was found among the deceased and acted alone, as confirmed by the police. There is substantial evidence that suggests he shot himself. However, the Police said they had no information about it. The gunman had no prior criminal record and had no known connections to gangs or terrorist organizations. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
Forest said he could only confirm that a firearm was used for the attack.
On Wednesday the police said that they are still working towards knowing whether more people are involved in this arson.

    Stance of government
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson called it the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history.”  He added, “We have witnessed brutal, deadly violence against completely innocent people,”
On X, he delivered his condolences by saying,” My thoughts are also with all those whose normal school day was replaced with terror, Being confined to a classroom with fear for your own life is a nightmare that no one should have to experience.”
Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer said to a Swedish news agency “The reports of violence in Orebro are very serious. The police are on site and the operation is in full swing. The government is in close contact with the police, and is closely following developments,”

    The Memorial
A growing Makeshift memorial was held on the scene. A shocked town citizen said while attending the memorial, to The Associated Press,” Not in this place, I mean, we heard about it in different parts of the world, but of course, it’s a shock. It’s your hometown and so many lives destroyed. It’s hard to find words.”
The King and Queen Silvia attended the memorial on Wednesday along with the Prime minister. The king said to reporters outside of the memorial, “We are here to show our grief to all the families who have their loved ones, who have people who have lost their lives, but also, they should always remember that they are not alone. I think today the whole of Sweden will take part and are standing behind them.”
