The Preity Zinta loan allegation controversy has brought into focus the rapid and often volatile nature of information circulation in the digital age. The controversy surrounding Preity involves allegations of a loan write-off, which she has strongly denied.
How did it all starts?
Bollywood actress and Co-owner of Punjab Kings IPL franchise, Preity Zinta, is in some hot water with the Leftists, Islamists, and even official Congress party handles. Recently, Preity Zinta’s went to the Maha Kumbh and shared a photo from there on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Preity posted, “All roads lead to the Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj. सत्यम शिवम् सुंदरम्”, adding her trademark sign off “Ting” at the end.
The next day, co-incidentally Kerala Congress party made a claim on social media that Preity Zinta had a ₹18 crore loan from the New India Co-operative Bank written off. The Kerala Congress party used social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), to publicize their claims.
Adding fuel to the fire, they further asserted that this financial favor was granted in exchange for her lending her social media presence to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This accusation tied the financial allegation to a political party, significantly increasing the controversy.
Preity Zinta’s Firm Rebuttal:
Preity responded swiftly and gracefully, taking to her own social media accounts to denounce the allegations as “Fake news.”
She provided a clear counter-narrative, stating that while she had indeed taken a loan, it had been fully repaid over 10 years ago. She also made it very clear that she personally manages her social media accounts, thus denying the claim that she had handed them over to the BJP.
She expressed her anger and disappointment towards the congress party, for spreading what she claims to be false information.
Further, addressing Moneylife Managing Editor Sucheta Dalal, Preity posted, “I’m definitely going to start naming all these journalists that write articles without following up or investigating the stories. If you don’t value my reputation, then sorry I don’t value yours @suchetadalal Next time pls call me and find out if the story is true or not before mentioning my name.”
With this post she also addressed the issue of celebrity accusations spreading rapidly in todays digital age.
Is it just a co-incident?
All these allegations against the actress also leads to a media speculation that is going on in the social media. Earlier, Preity also posted about how social media is turning cynical.
“if you appreciate ur PM then you are a bhakt & god forbid, if you are a proud Hindu or Indian then ur an Andh Bhakt !” , She also added, “Let’s keep it real folks & take people for who they are & not who we think they should be ! Maybe we all need to take a chill pill and just be happy to communicate with each other.”
According to various media speculations, little did Preity know that this innocuous post asking people not to be cynical online will invite so much trolling. The post triggered Islamists since she mentioned admiring PM Modi in her post.
This also leads to Islamist Arfa Khanum Sherwani reposting this post by Preity mentioning admiration of PM Modi is her attempt to get back to Bollywood. “Someone please sign Preity Zinta for a film. Why no roles for a “proud Hindu” & “PM praiser”? Guess the industry missed her “patriotism” and “loyalty.”, Arfa posted.
This development again goes to show how you will be attacked in India by the leftist ecosystem if you proudly display your Hindu faith or God forbid, admire Prime Minister Modi. While many celebrities succumb to this pressure, Preity has refused to bow down in the face of the attacks on her.
The aftermath of this incident
The controversy sparked a significant online debate, with various news outlets and social media users discussing the allegations and Preity’s response. The congress party has since stated they are willing to accept any errors that may have made.
They also posted, “We shared the news as reported by media outlets. According to media outlets which reported this story, ex-employees of New India Cooperative Bank had warned the RBI in a letter they wrote in January 2020 about the corrupt practices that was going on in the bank. In that report, your name along with many others were mentioned.”
They also said ,”We are standing with the depositors who lost their savings. If the reports are wrong, we request you to clear the air with proof once for all and raise your voice in their interest too.”
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of critical thinking and fact-checking in the age of social media.
