Lucknow Sweet Shop Creates World’s Largest Gujhiya Ahead of Holi

    Read Later

As India prepares to celebrate Holi, the festival of colors, a renowned sweet shop in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has set a record with an astonishing creation. Chhappan Bhog, a name synonymous with premium sweets and traditional delicacies, has made history by crafting the world’s largest Gujiya, a deep-fried, sweet-filled pastry that is an integral part of Holi celebrations.

This gigantic treat, named the ‘Baahubali Gujiya’, weighs an astonishing 6 kilograms and measures 25 inches in length, making it the largest Gujiya ever recorded. The creation was officially recognized by the India Book of Records, securing Chhappan Bhog’s place in culinary history.

A Historic Moment for Indian Sweets

The grand unveiling of the Baahubali Gujiya took place at an event hosted at Phoenix Palassio Mall in Lucknow, where food enthusiasts, customers, and media gathered to witness the record-breaking moment. Pramil Dwivedi, the official Executor of the India Book of Records, confirmed the achievement, stating:

“This Gujiya weighs 6 kilograms and is 25 inches long, breaking previous records. Our research revealed no one had made such a large Gujiya before.”

With this feat, Chhappan Bhog has added another milestone to its legacy, further cementing its reputation as a pioneer in Indian sweets and festive delicacies.

Gujhiya – A Sweet Symbol of Festivity

Gujiya holds a special place in Indian culture, particularly during Holi, Diwali, and other celebratory occasions. This crescent-shaped pastry is typically filled with khoya (mawa), grated coconut, dry fruits, sugar, and cardamom, deep-fried to golden perfection, and often coated with sugar syrup for added sweetness.

While the traditional Gujiya is widely enjoyed in North India, especially in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, variations exist across different regions. In Maharashtra, for instance, a similar dish called Karanji is popular, while in South India, it is comparable to the deep-fried Modak.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the Baahubali Gujiya, Kshitij Gupta, Marketing Head of Chhappan Bhog, highlighted its deeper cultural significance.

“Gujiya represents Vasudev Kutumbakam, the idea that the world is one family. The Baahubali Gujiya reflects our culture by incorporating the colors of various festivals, including Holi, Ramzan, and India’s recent cricket victory.”, he said.

By making this record-breaking Gujiya, Chhappan Bhog aimed not only to celebrate Holi but also to symbolize India’s unity in diversity—a message of inclusivity and shared joy.

What Makes the Baahubali Gujhiya So Special?

This isn’t just an oversized version of a classic sweet; the Baahubali Gujiya is crafted using some of the finest ingredients, making it an exclusive treat. It features Saffron (Kesar), almonds, cashews, khoya (Mawa), raisins and other dry fruits and pure Ghee.

Given the high-quality ingredients and meticulous preparation, the Baahubali Gujhiya is priced between ₹20,000 to ₹25,000.
