The clashes erupted in Ludhiana, near a mosque, while Muslim communities were praying inside the mosque while a Holi procession passed by the place with loud music and flying colors resulting in a rock pelting between two sides.

On Friday evening, two groups in Ludhiana clashed on the occasion of the Holi Celebration, causing rock-pelting, leaving several injured. The reports say that the clashes erupted in the Bihari Colony in the Transport Nagar area of Ludhiana, near a mosque. The members of Muslim communities were praying inside the mosque while a Holi procession passed by the place with loud music and flying colors, resulting in a rock pelting between two sides. Stones, Bricks, and other objects were thrown at each other reportedly injuring two persons.

The situation was brought under control when the police arrived. The police then began the investigation, which included reviewing surveillance footage.

    The Denied Communal angle

“It was not a communal clash. The situation is completely under control. An FIR has been registered, and eight persons have been arrested for hooliganism, on one side is the mosque, where Muslim community members were coming out after offering prayers while observing roza. On the other side of the road, migrants settled in the area were celebrating Holi. They had installed speakers for loud music, and some were intoxicated. Miscreants from both sides created a nuisance, leading to heated arguments that escalated into stone pelting,” the additional DC[ Prabhjot Singh Virl said to the Indian Express.

    The Arrests

A total of 15 suspects have been booked in the case, of which 8 are under arrest by the Ludhiana Police. The situation was brought under control after the police attempted to maintain law and order by registering the case, as stated by Additional DCP Virk.

The Security Forces are still patrolling the area to monitor the situation and prevent additional outbreaks of conflict between the groups.
