Dehradun Mystery Disease: Child Dies Even as AIIMS Rishikesh Fails to Diagnose

    Read Later

A horrific case has been received from Dehradun, in which an unusual disease in a child resulted in his untimely death even though he had been taken to four of the district’s top-ranked hospitals. No cause of the sickness of the child was found even after the doctors were consulted on several occasions. The father of the deceased child, Dalbir Bisht, reported that no doctor was able to give him satisfactory information about his son’s illness.

    Four Hospitals, No Diagnosis

It came to light in an unusual case that surprised not only the family of the child, but even the medical fraternity. Even physicians who have worked at some of Dehradun’s top hospitals were unable to diagnose the illness.

The child was taken by the family at AIIMS Rishikesh, Jolly Grant Hospital, Doon Hospital, and a private hospital in Dehradun. Few of the doctors started the treatment in some cases, and none of them was even ready to talk about the case.

The Medical Journey: A Desperate Search for Treatment

Dalbir Bisht told that his son fell seriously ill all of a sudden on Tuesday at 9 AM. Terrified, the family members directly took him to AIIMS Rishikesh. Doctors at the hospital first treated him and advised the family members to return home.

Unsatisfied and still concerned about the ill health of their son, the family then hurried toom the child to Jolly Grant Hospital. There, after providing initial medical attention, physicians admitted not being capable of diagnosing the disease and revealed their incapability towards further treatment.

With hopes of knowing what had happened to the child, the family took the child to Doon Hospital later. The physicians there informed them that they lacked the facility to treat the child and recommended the family see a private hospital in Dehradun.

After reaching the private hospital, the family was given the shocking news—the doctors certified the child as dead.

    Unexplained Symptoms Raise Concerns

The boy, in the account given by the father, began displaying unusual symptoms before he died. He began spasming his head, feet, and hands in unusual patterns. The family is also unsure whether the boy suffered from rabies infection or not, although none was confirmed.

    A Case That Raises Questions

This unfortunate incident has brought into question some glaring issues about the readiness of hospitals to deal with sophisticated medical emergencies. The fact that most of the hospitals could not diagnose and treat the child has sent the family into shock and awe.

This incident calls for better medical diagnostic tools and more sophisticated health procedures to avoid such an occurrence in the future.
