A Top 100 global university and member of the United Kingdom’s prestigious Group, the University of Southampton (UoS) will set up its campus in India. It is certain that the dream of studying at a top global university of Indian youth would be within their reach and that too in India itself. In this regard, aspiring students used to be worried about visa uncertainties and the high costs of going abroad. This setting is in the context of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 of the Ministry of Education.
In this regard, the External Affairs Minister of India and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Dr S Jaishankar shared on the tweeting handle ‘X’, “Pleased to attend handing over of Letter of Intent (LoI) to the University of Southampton which will be establishing a campus in India under NEP 2020. This reflects the vision of elevating our educational standards to the highest global levels and delivering on the education pillar of India-UK cooperation. Confident that such endeavors will further make Indian youth world ready and foster a spirit of global understanding and cooperation.”
During an event, “Internationalization of Education under NEP 2020: Setting up of Foreign University in India”, organized in New Delhi, Union Minister Dr S Jaishankar handed over the Letter of Intent (LoI) to the university’s representatives.
The new University of Southampton campus is expected to be in ‘Gurugram’ within the National Capital Region (NCR). This campus promises to offer world-class teaching and learning opportunities across a range of top degree programs. It will make easier for Indian students to get quality education without leaving the country. Starting in July 2025, the university will offer various undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has already announced regulations for setting up and operating foreign university campuses in India. Concerned authorities have assured that the degrees awarded by the India campus of the UoS will be the same as in the host university. The programs offered will adhere to the same academic and quality standards.
