It’s no secret that handwriting is a prevalent problem among doctors, and many times patients, nurses, and pharmacists have struggled to understand the scribbles by a doctor on the prescription pad while recommending medication to the patient. Recently, such an incident from Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district has come into light, where a doctor’s prescription after treating the patient at the government hospital shocked the patient as well as the medical store operator after reading it.
Prescription Controversy
In this case, the patient was undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Nagoud. After he refused to seek treatment at the doctor’s private hospital, the enraged doctor wrote him a prescription in such a way that no medical pharmacist could understand it.
Meanwhile, the prescription is now making several rounds on social media, with people accusing the doctors and the medical fraternity for this reprehensive act.
According to reports, the patient was identified as Arvind Kumar, who is a resident of Rakhiwada. Recently, he went to a government hospital in Nagoud with his family in order to seek treatment for his chest pain.
At the hospital, he met Dr. Amit Soni, who suggested he visit his private hospital for further treatment. However, Kumar’s family members refused him, citing their financial situation and requested him to prescribe medicines itself.
Meanwhile, the angry doctor hastily wrote a prescription on the pad and asked the patient to take the medicine and left. When the patient went out to get medicine at the medical stores, none of the store operators could read the prescription.
However, on finding no medications prescribed in the prescription, a medical store operator made it viral on social media. The incident has sparked a new controversy in the medical fraternity over the improper writing of the doctors, creating problems for both patients and the medical staff.
Considering the matter seriously, the chief medical and health officer, Satna, issued a note against the doctor, seeking an explanation over the matter.
Broader Issues in the Indian Healthcare System
Notably, patients being mistreated at the government hospitals by doctors and other medical staff members is the most prevalent issue in India. The issue sometimes stems from various factors such as overburdened medical staff, lack of resources, systematic issues, and non-serious behavior of doctors towards the patients.
there are many laws through which one can also file a complaint to the Medical Council of India (MCI) or in the respective state medical centers. However, it’s still a serious, concerning issue. To protect the patient’s healthcare rights, there’s a need to address this issue from the health system and make necessary systematic changes to it, including training for medical staff, improved working conditions, and stricter accountability measures.
