    Congress Urges Action Against BJP Leaders for Threatening Rahul Gandhi

    The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has levelled several grave threats against the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, which has attracted the ire of Congress. These involve threats to the life of the Leader of the Opposition.

    In response, Congress has sought severe action against the BJP brass, with Congress leader Ajay Maken filing a complaint with New Delhi’s Tughlak Road Police Station. A copy of the complaint was also sent to the Chief Election Commissioner of India.

    BJP workers’ threat to Rahul Gandhi has raised concerns regarding the security of the Leader of Opposition. Congress urged the PM to take action and preserve the sanctity of the political discourse in the largest democracy of the world as was written in the complaint, “the rest of world watches as the ruling party openly threatens to kill the Leader of Opposition”.

    The letter from Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh named several BJP leaders who had openly issued “assassination threats” against the leader of opposition. The letter of complaint stated that the “threats issued by the BJP” show a personal hatred from the NDA/BJP leaders, aimed at causing unrest in the country.

    “His silence only emboldens these anti-India elements that are attempting to disrupt the peace of the country by threatening violence against the leader of opposition. The entire world is watching how the ruling party of India is threatening to kill the leader of opposition of India.”

    “Jo haal Dadi ka hua”

    The complaint explicitly mentioned BJP leader Tarvinder Singh Marwah said Rahul Gandhi will meet the fate of his grandmother if he does not “mend his ways”.

    “Rahul Gandhi baaj aaja, nhi toh tera bhi vhi haal hoga jo teri dadi ka hua” (Mend your ways Rahul Gandhi, or you will share the same fate as your grandmother)

    Rahul’s grandmother, Indira Gandhi, was shot dead by her bodyguards, Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, in retaliation for Operation Blue Star.

    Operation Blue Star was a military operation conducted in the Holiest Shrine for Sikhs, the Harminder Sahib, to root out Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and other militants believed to have been holding up in the sacred site.

    The complaint also mentioned BJP ally Sanjay Gaikwad, who on September 16 had “announced a bounty of Rs. 11 lakhs for anyone who will cut the tongue of Rahul Gandhi”.

    The complaint also mentioned the name of Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, who said that “Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is the ‘number one terrorist of India’”.

    Bittu’s comments followed Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the US, where he said that the “fight” in India will be regarding “whether a Sikh will be able to wear a turban to the Gurudwara”. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had also taken an objection to Gandhi’s comments, saying that Sikhs have not been threatened in the country since 1984.

    Kharge’s letter to BJP

    Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter addressed to PM Modi raising the issue of the threat and objectionable statements to Rahul Gandhi.

    In response, BJP President JP Nadda had written a letter citing Rahul Gandhi’s previous comments regarding the Prime Minister and other OBCs.

    Taking to X, Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP KC Venugopal called out BJP President JP Nadda’s response to Mallikarjun Kharge saying that it “smacks of arrogance” and “clearly shows that since the PM could not even get himself to respond on this very serious issue, the attacks on Rahul ji have his full support”.

    Former Union Minister of Sports, Jitendra Singh Alwar also took to X to call out BJP’s serious threats against the Leader of Opposition who was “raising the voice of the labourers and farmers. He asks questions by looking straight into the eyes of the Modi government.

    But BJP’s Union Ministers and MLAs are calling them terrorists and threatening to kill them.” He urged the PM to take action against his party members who are making such threats.
