Former Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal is likely to vacate from the Chief Minister’s house and relocate to a new residence. The party made this decision earlier on Thursday, October 3, 2024. It stated that the former CM would relocate to bungalow No. 5, Ferozshah Road near Mandi House. The house is currently allotted to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal.

He will move to a new residence (i.e bungalow No. 5 Ferozeshah road) in the New Delhi area along with his family. Earlier, he was living in the Official residence of the Delhi Chief Minister at 6, Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines.

    Arvind Kejriwal’s Resignation

On September 17, Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal submitted his resignation from his position as Delhi CM following his release from the liquor policy case. He said he stepped down to seek the “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi. He will return to his position, once he has regained people’s trust.

Atishi Marlena becomes 3rd Woman to hold the top post as Delhi’s CM

Atishi Marlena is the third woman to hold CM’s position in the national Capital at 42, following the footsteps of two political heavyweights – Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

The party leader decided ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls due next year in February and endorsed Atishi Marlena as the Delhi CM.

Atishi was sworn to the position on September 21, 2024. She is a popular political face and Kejriwal loyalist.

She took the oath along with five Cabinet Ministers including Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Imran Hussain, Kailash Gahlot, and the new MLA of Sultanpur Majra, Mukesh Ahlawat.

While Gehlot, Bharadwaj, Rai, and Hussain retained their positions from the previous cabinet, Ahlawat, MLA Sultanpur Majra, is a new entrant. He succeeded Raj Kumar Anand who resigned from AAP to become an active member of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) well before the latest Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, Atishi still holds all the 13 department that she had been holding earlier. These include the public works department, power department, education department, water department, and finance department among others. However, Ahlawat has got the Ministry SC ST welfare and labor department and many others among them.

Earlier, Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj held seven departments including health and urban development. Now this minister has social welfare and cooperative/cooperation as additional department, so he is holding eight departments.

During her first address after the oath-taking ceremony on Saturday, September 21, 2024, Atishi shared that it was a very emotional moment for the party.

“I would like to thank Delhi’s son, the most loved CM in the history of Delhi, the leader of AAP, my elder brother, and political mentor Arvind Kejriwalji for entrusting me to take care of Delhi’s residents. Although I have taken oath as the CM of Delhi, this is a very emotional moment because Arvind Kejriwal is no longer the chief minister of Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal understood the pain of the common people, the poor people living in Delhi, understood their daily struggle. He understood how difficult it is for common families to run their household,” she added.

Further, she also requested the people of Delhi to support the former CM’s return, stating, “Now, the residents of Delhi have to ensure that Arvind Kejriwal gets to sit on the CM’s seat once again. The 2 crore voters have to ensure that he sits on the chief minister’s seat, or else the BJP would stop providing you free electricity, mohalla clinics will not work, the education system would become cripple and bus tickets would not be free for women.”

Additionally, former CM, Arvind Kejriwal has represented the New Delhi constituency as an MLA since 2013. He defeated then-Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and retained the seat in both 2015 and 2020.

Kejriwal spent nearly six months in Tihar Jail due to alleged irregularities in the Delhi liquor policy of 2021-22. He has consistently denied these allegations, accusing the opposition of political conspiracies against AAP. Within a few days of resignation, he is likely to shift at new home, bungalow No. 5, Ferozshah Road near Mandi House.
