India is taking on New Zealand in a three-match Test Series from 16th October, 2024. However, the First Day of the 1st Test Match, IND vs NZ, in Bengaluru has been called off due to rains.

India is all set to take on New Zealand in the first Test of the three-match series, with the first match taking place from October 16 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Aim of India here is for 18th consecutive series win at home.

Despite the hopes of the cricket-lovers, the rain kept on playing hide and seek throughout the first day. Day 2, 17th October, is expected to have an early start with toss taking place at 8:45 am IST and the game starting at 9:15 am. Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian side.

This series can create history in more than one way as Rohit Sharma will become ‘First Player (Batter)’ ,on getting 258 runs more in this ‘Series’, by amassing 1000 runs, in the ongoing ‘World Test Championship (WTC)’ 2023-25 Cycle.

Currently, Rohit has scored 742 runs in this cycle. Thus, he needs to score 258 runs in the three-match series against New Zealand to score 1,000. On managing to do so, he will become the first Indian batter to slam 1000 or more runs in a single WTC cycle twice. Rohit has already achieved this feat once in the WTC 2019-21 cycle, where he scored 1094 runs.

Apart from leading the side, Rohit will also play an important role with the bat. In fact, the Indian skipper is on the cusp of achieving the above quoted huge feat that no Indian before him has managed to achieve.

Rohit is also on the verge of achieving historic ‘Six-Hitting Feat’. Currently, he has 87 sixes to his name in Test Cricket. He stands second on the list of sixes by an Indian batter in the longest format of the game. If he hits 13 sixes in the series, he will again become the first Indian Batter to hit a hundred sixes in Test Cricket. He will also become the fourth player in the world after Ben Stokes, Brendon McCullum and Adam Gilchrist.

Rohit needs five more sixes to become the Indian with the most number of sixes by an Indian in Test Cricket, by overtaking legendary opener Virender Sehwag’s tally of 90, in the longest format.

Rohit Sharma is also set to break ace-cricketer Virat Kohli’s record. Rohit currently has 12 wins as India captain in his WTC career. Kohli is the most successful Indian captain in the competition’s history with 14 wins. Hence, India needs to have a complete whitewash to ensure Rohit Sharma’ s captaincy has 15 wins, and so overtakes Virat’s record.
