Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited film ‘Emergency’ has faced delays due to controversies, but the actress has provided an exciting update. She confirmed that the film has finally received its certification, and a release date will be announced soon.

Kangana Ranaut’s film “Emergency” has received censor clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after making specific edits.

The CBFC granted a ‘UA’ certification, requiring three cuts and the inclusion of factual sources for certain historical claims. The film, which explores India’s Emergency period from 1975 to 1977 under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, faced scrutiny for its portrayal of events.

Prior to this, the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) had informed the Bombay High Court that Kangana Ranaut, the producer and lead actor in the controversial film “Emergency”, has agreed to the cuts/changes as suggested by the Censor Board’s revising committee. A division bench of Justices Burgess Colabawalla and Firdosh Poonawalla has been hearing a petition filed.

A 1986 born, Kangna Amardeep Ranaut is an Indian actress, filmmaker and politician serving as a Member of Parliament from Mandi Constituency since June 2024. Known for her portrayals of strong-willed, unconventional women in female-led Hindi films, she is the recipient of several awards including four National Film Awards; five Filmfare Awards; and has featured six times in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 List. In 2020, the Government of India had honored her with the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian award.

At the age of sixteen, Ranaut briefly took up modelling before being trained under a theatre director. She made her film debut in the 2006 thriller. Her comic role in Tanu weds Manu (2011) was well-received, though this was followed by a series of brief, glamorous roles in films that failed to propel her career forward.

In 2020, Ranaut launched her own production company, Manikarnika Films, under which she works as a director and a producer. She has been credited in the media as being one of the best-dressed celebrities and is known to be outspoken. The opinions she has voiced, aligning with right-wing ideologies and supporting the BJP, along with frequent clashes in her personal and professional relationships, have sparked many controversies.
