New Zealand Women beat South Africa Women by 32 runs to get crowned Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Champions. The White Ferns have scripted history by winning their first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup. New Zealand amassed 158 runs in 20 overs; whereas, South Africa could score only 126 runs. Amelia Kerr was declared player of the match as well as that of the tournament.

New Zealand posted a huge total of 158 on the board after being asked to bat first by South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt. Suzie Bates gave the White Ferns a solid start with a 31-ball 32. Amelia Kerr was the top-scorer for the 2009 runners-up with a knock of 43 runs in 28 balls. However, Brook Halliday played the knock that changed the course of the innings with a quick-fire 28-ball 38. Nonkululeko Mlaba took two wickets for South Africa while Aybonga Khake, Chloe Tyron and Nadline de Klerk got one wicket each.

South Africa and New Zealand faced each other in a historic final of the Women’s T20 World Cup with the tournament set to get a first-time winner. Not only have the two countries not won the Women’s tournament, neither of the two teams have ever won the Men’s T20 World Cup either.

South Africa played the final for the second year in a row after losing a home final to Australia at Cape Town in 2023. On the other hand, the White Ferns had reached the final after 15 years with their last appearance in the summit clash coming during the inaugural edition in 2009, when they lost to England.

The 2024 edition of the tournament proved to be the third instance that Australia did not win the competition. South Africa won the toss and had chosen to bowl first in Dubai.
