The year 2024 saw a lot of scientific developments. Discussion of scientific developments is incomplete without the mention of NASA. From astonishing space missions, technological innovations, and sending astronauts to explore the depths of space, the scientific agency NASA has achieved major milestones. At this point, we should officially declare the year 2024 as year of NASA.
Here’s a memory lane to NASA’s top accomplishments of the year 2024.
NASA successfully launched its Artemis II, the first crewed mission of the Space Launch System (SLS) in 2024. The mission aimed at achieving a significant milestone in the Artemis program. The mission was a massive step towards humanity’s return to the Moon. By sending astronauts out of the Earth orbit, Artemis II has laid a foundation for Artemis III lunar which is landing in 2025. This mission also showcases NASA’s capability to conduct deep space missions.
On April 8, an amazing total solar eclipse moved across North America, casting its shadow over Mexico, United States, and Canada. The live coverage of the event was telecasted by NASA’s Kennedy both on-air and online. The live coverage offered viewers an immersive experience as the eclipse passed through each city’s point of totality.
In 2024, NASA launched a space traffic management system. This step intended to mitigate the risk of collisions, ensuring safe navigation in Earth’s orbit. The system’s objective was to regulate the accessing number of satellited and space mission, contributing to safer space operations.
NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams marked history as the first crew to fly aboard Boeings Starliner spacecraft on June 6, NASA. The mission, part of NASAs Boeing Crew Flight Test. It was launched atop United Launch Alliances Atlas V rocket from Space Launch Complex 41. The spacecraft designated location was the International Space Station. This mission was a massive milestone achieved by NASA highlighting the efforts of crew and the people involved.
NASA officially launched it NASA’s Europe Clipper mission in October. This marks the agency inaugural mission to discover Jupiter’s icy moon Europa. This mission aimed to examine whether its subsurface ocean contains the necessary weather conditions for life or not. The spacecraft, SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket went aboard on October 16 from Launch Complex 39A. After voyaging through space for years, Europa Clipper will at Europa in 2030.
Undoubtedly, 2024 was the year of NASA, bottled with remarkable accomplishments. All the milestones achieved by NASA have pushed the boundaries of space technology and exploration. NASA’s amassing success is shaping the future of science, and we can expect many new discoveries in 2025 as well.
