In a major turn of events, a private school in Delhis Dwarka area received a bomb threat on Friday morning, December 20, 2024, prompting authorities to take immediate action.

The emergency response teams have been rushed to the spot, and the classes shifted to the online mode for the day. Notably, the threat targeted DPS Dwarka in the southwest part of the national capital.

We received a call regarding a bomb threat at 05:02 am from DPS, Dwarka in Sector 23, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said. The bomb threats in the national capital targeting schools, have been rising.

The authorities have been closely investigating the matter.

Previous Bomb Threats

The threat comes in the wake of another similar incident that took place earlier on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Several schools in the city, including RK Purams Delhi Public School, received a bomb threat via email.

The Delhi Police Special Cell identified a student from Delhis private school in Paschim Vihar, behind the bomb threat mail.

After tracing the IP address, the authorities were able to locate the students home. He confessed the act. The student was counseled and released with a warning to his parents to closely observe his behaviour.

A day before the incident, Delhis multiple schools received a bomb threat email. According to the reports, around 30 schools were targeted with hoax bomb threats. The preliminary investigation revealed that these emails were generated from outside the country.

On December 9, around 44 schools received such threat mails for bomb attacks; meanwhile, Delhi Police later dismissed them as hoaxes. In May 2024, around 250 schools, hospitals, and other establishments were targeted with similar mails. The authorities still are not able to resolve the matter

Arvind Kejriwal on Bomb Threats

Delhi’s former chief minister and AAP chief, Arvind Kejriwal, extended his concern over the matter, reiterating the students psychological well-being and academic progress. He stressed that if these threats continue to erupt, they would significantly disrupt the childrens education and mental health.

In response to such threats, the Delhi high court had instructed the Delhi government and police to create a detailed standard operating procedure for handling bomb threats and related emergencies. The court also set an eight-week deadline for the completion of these measures.
