    A WOW Story: From Small Kiosk to Multi-Crore Empire

    In the northern regions of India and other nearby countries, people widely consume momos as a street food item.These are basically white flour dumplings filled with a variety of fillings, such as chicken, vegetables, cheese, chocolate, and many more. Originated from Tibet and Nepal, also known as Dim Sum, the mouth already starts to water while thinking about their savory, delicate and somewhat spicy taste.   
     
    India is such a vast country, with diversified and traditional food and species.The tempting cuisines of India, inspired from their deep-seated cultural roots and heritage, has led to the emergence of many successful food entrepreneurs in India. Thousands of new and small-scale business units are inspired to dream big and realize their passions by their entrepreneurial journey.   

    The Rise of Wow Momo 

    The well-known momo wallas, Wow Momos, disrupted the Indian Momo market.
     
    It’s the triumph of two college pals and their extraordinary passion for a wide variety of foods and culinary treats. In the modern era, Wow Momo has emerged as the biggest and fastest-growing company in the world, taking on rivals like Domino’s and Mac Donald’s in India.

    The Early Days 

    Wow! Momo  began with a small investment of Rs 30,000 and has since grown to become a well-known Indian food brand valued at Rs 860 crores. It was founded in 2008 by two St. Xavier’s College classmates, Sagar Daryani and Binod Kumar Homagai, who began selling steam momos from a 6 by 6 kiosk in Springdale Spencer from a garage in Kolkata, West Bengal.

    They bought groceries from a nearby store. When they first opened their business, there was just one table. The two continued to make momos as part of their daily jobs after developing a keen specialty in them.

    They began asking to taste samples of the momos from each person who entered the spencer store.  

    Expansion and Growth 

    In the course of the following two years, they quickly began growing their company. They set up similar kiosks throughout the city in malls, tech parks, commercial spaces, and hypermarkets.  

    In addition, their momos are now available in Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Kochi.  
    Wow! Momo received the 2013 “Best SME of the Year Award” in addition to the “Best Food & Agri Products” award.

    In 2018, Wow! Momo had more than 200 stores locations in 13 Indian cities, offering 16 different types of momos including corn, cheese, and vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.  In 2019, the company reached a significant milestone by building an empire valued at over Rs 860 crores, following an investment of Rs 130 crores by Tiger Global Management.
