    Meet Akriti Chopra: Zomato’s New Co-founder Rises up the Ranks

Most of you have probably used Zomato at some point or you’ve certainly heard of the name inscribed on the red bags of the delivery boys cruising through the roads everywhere. 

    Zomato, an international restaurant aggregator and food delivery service provider based in India, was established in 2008 by Pankaj Chaddha and Deepinder Goyal. Zomato offers menus, user reviews, and other details of partner restaurants along with deliveries.

    Akriti Chopra was born in 1988 and did her schooling from DPS RK Puram. She graduated from Delhi’s Lady Shri Ram College for Women. 

    She began working for Zomato in 2011 as a Senior Manager of Finance and Operations. In 2012, she was promoted to the position of VP (Vice President), Finance and Operations. In 2020, they promoted her to CFO. Then they elevated her to co-founder of the company, with a current market valuation of Rs 1,76,848.7 crore.

She has been one of the strongest pillars of support for Zomato, as we weathered multiple ups and downs through these years. I know that doesn’t mean much to you, because you have always been a founder at Zomato. Sometimes more than me, but never less than me. Thank you. Congratulations for now officially being a co- founder at Zomato.” Said Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal, in an internal memo to employees when he made Akriti the co-founder.

    As one of Zomato’s co-founders, Akriti has a significant influence on the financial plans and general course of the business. Her economic knowledge and leadership abilities are the main factors influencing Zomato’s continuous growth and success in the very competitive meal delivery sector.

    In addition, Akriti established Zomato’s internal teams for legal, governance, risk, and compliance. As a member of the global growth and international operations teams, Akriti also played a key role in the company’s numerus fundraising efforts and acquisitions.  

    Lessons from Previous Experience: PwC and eBay 

    Akriti spent three years working in the Tax & Regulatory practice at PwC, before she started her journey as an entrepreneur. She worked for eBay India as well, where she picked useful e-commerce experience. Additionally, Chopra was a management graduate who worked for the multinational consulting company, Accenture. 

    Personal Insights: Prioritizing Health and Well-being 

     Over the previous ten years, Akriti has come to understand the significance of anchoring tools. Using a journal helped her become more clear-headed and less anxious. She also prioritized emotional and mental health and physical health. In an interview she brought up therapy as a useful tool for self-reflection and the study of behavioral patterns. She is now married to Albinder Dhindsa, the founder of Blinkit which is acquired by Zomato. 

    Financial Success: ESOPs and Rewards 

    Her remarkable financial success with Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) is a noteworthy aspect of Akriti Chopra’s journey. Akriti made an astounding 149 crores using Zomato’s ESOPs. Her financial windfall demonstrates her commitment to the business and emphasizes the rewards that can earned by those dedicatedly working towards a startup’s success.
