What if your loved one continues to live with you even after their demise? The time where technology is constantly shaping the understanding of reality, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is exploring something that was imagined only in science fiction. This revolutionary technology is conversations with the dead.
This groundbreaking AI invention is creating remarkable opportunities and moral dilemmas, that was only heard or seen in the movies.
You won’t easily believe this, but this is true! South Korean broadcaster Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), made it possible for a lady named, Jang Ji-sung. The mother lost her seven-year-old daughter Na-eyon, to a blood illness. She was able to reconnect with her with the help of the corporation.
In a footage released by MBC, Jang stands before a green screen, wearing a VR device. Viewers were then taken to a virtual world, where they saw the virtual reality-animated daughter. The little girl, appears from behind a stack of wood, wearing a pink Frozen-themed outfit.
The emotional mother reaches out to embrace her daughter but realizes that her hands are passing through the virtual representation of her.
However, this development raises serious concerns. Digital replicas of the deceased could give a tough time, for a person to completely accept or move on from their loss. Some can misuse this technology by creating fake or misleading videos.
While this AI technology claims to preserve memories and offer comfort, it also reminds us of ethical duty. We must apply this new technology with thoughtful analysis, without disturbing or hurting them.
