In a record-breaking advancement by the Indian Railways, the Namo Bharat Train entered the National Capital Delhi on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 13-km section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor from Sahibabad, UP to New Ashok Nagar, Delhi via Anand Vihar. Notably, this a Rs 4,600 crore projects, which has been marked as significant milestone in enhancing regional connectivity. The redevelopment of the Namo Bharat train, also known as the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in India, began on March 8, 2019. The project was aimed at reducing travel time and improving the transportation infrastructure.
PM Modi’s Visit to Namo Bharat Train
Modi took a ride on a Namo Bharat train from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nahar. During his journey, the Prime Minister also interacted with several people, including children. He also visited the photo exhibition by NCRTC. The exhibition showcased the journey and vision of the Namo Bharat project in connecting and nation building.
He was also presented with an overview of NCRTC’s cutting edge Asset Management system. This will ensure operational and infrastructure sustainability.
In a display of ease and accessibility of digital payments within Public transport services, PM Modi also purchased an NCMC (National Common Mobility Card) using UPI payment system. He then onboarded the train.
PM Modi’s Interaction with People
He interacted with traveler demonstrating the social impact of corridor. During the journey, Women beneficiaries of NCRTCs vocational training programme, supported by the JFPR shared their work insights with the PM.
The engineering students also discussed and shared their aspirations with him. While the schools students displayed their creativity in the forms of artwork, poetry, and songs inspired by the project.
PM Modi Flagged off Namo Bharat Corridor
PM Modi flagged off the Namo Bharat Corridor from Rohini to commence operations on this section. While addressing the occasion, He said, “Today, Delhi-NCR has received a significant gift from the Government of India and added that India’s urban mobility has expanded further.”
The Prime Minister also recalled the his ride on the train and said that he interacted with many youngsters, who were filled with joy and hope.
He emphasised that once this project is completed, there will be some major changes in traffic on Delhi-Meerut route. PM modi further also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the people of Delhi-NCR over this development.
About the Recently Developed Namo Bharat Train
With this significant inauguration, Meerut is directed connected to Delhi. The travelers can reach Meerut now within just 40 minutes, enabling a high speed and comfortable travel with unmatched safety and reliability.
The 55km RRTS corridor New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South has become operational, featuring 11 stations. The fare of Namo Bharat Train from New Ashok Nagar Station to Meerut South station is just Rs 150 for standard coach and Rs 225 for premium coach.
With the commencement of operations, Meerut city is now directly connected to the National capital, through Namo Bharat. This progress has significantly reduced travel time by one-third, enabling commuters to travel efficiently.
This train offers modern facilities to the commuters. These including phone charging points, luggage spots, a separate coach for women, and a premium coach.
Additionally, Namo Bharat trains has so far served over 50 lakh commuters, highlighting their popularity and impact. Meanwhile, the undergoing construction in other sections such as New Ashok Nagar-Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South-Modipuram is progressing at a rapid pace.
