In a special annual event called Surya Tilak something magical happens at the revered Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, India. It’s a symbolic ritual that aims to create a divine atmosphere within the temple grounds. This beautiful celebration takes place on Lord Ram’s birthday, the ninth day of the Chaitra month.

Surya Tilak – A Sacred Gesture

Surya Tilak, also known as Surya Abhishek, is a ritual where sunlight symbolically illuminates the forehead of the idol of Ram Lalla in the temple.

The worshippers believe that when the sun’s rays interact with the deity’s forehead, it brings blessings and create a sense of divinity.

    The Timing of the Ceremony

The ceremony lasts for just five minutes, from 12:16 PM to 12:21 PM. During this brief time, the sun’s rays touch the idol’s forehead, creating a magical moment of connection and reverence.

To make the Surya Tilak ceremony happen, a clever combination of optics and mechanics is used. Sunlight first falls on a mirror placed on the highest floor of the temple.

With the help of three lenses, the rays are carefully directed to another mirror on the second floor. From there, they reach the inner sanctum, gently touching Lord Ram’s forehead.

    A Celebration of Faith

The Surya Tilak ceremony brings together thousands of devoted people in Ayodhya, who come to witness this sacred event. Prayers, reverence, and a deep sense of spirituality fill the air during the ceremony.
