Emotional farewell to Agniveer Lovepreet Singh as his mortal remains arrive in Punjab’s Mansa village

The Akalia village of Mansa district in Punjab witnessed some heart-wrenching moments on Friday, January 25, 2025, as the mortal remains ofAgniveerLovepreet Singh were brought to his native place. Notably, the 24-year-old soldier was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the news of his martyrdom has brought a deep sorrow over his family and village. He succumbed to his injuries while serving with 99 Medium regiment during an operation in Kupwara on January 22, 2025.

The Chants of Shaheed Lovepreet Singh Amar Rahe echoed through the village, as the residents gathered together to pay final respects to him. Wrapped in national flag, his coffin was carried with full military honour.

Who is Lovepreet Singh?

Lovepreet Singh reportedly joined theIndian armyunder the Agnipath scheme around two years ago. The circumstances of death are still under investigation, while the initial reports claimed that his service rifle accidently discharged.

This is to be noted that Lovepreet was preparing to return home for his brothers wedding. According to the officials from Mansa district Sainik Welfare Office stated that Lovepreet Singh along with another soldier, was on road-opening unit duty when he went away for some time, and his accomplice later heard a gunshot.

Meanwhile, in his native village of Akalia, it was reported that he was martyred in gunfire with enemies. However, a wave of sadness was crashed over his village and family members after his martyrdom. 

According to the villagers, he was the younger of two brothers and was all set to return to his village for his brothers wedding in the wedding.

Deputy Commissioner of Mansa Expresses Condolences

The Political leaders have expressed their condolences on social media. Kulwant Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Mansa district in Punjab mentioned, We have been informed about the demise of the Agniveer and his mortal remains are expected to reach his native village later in evening.

Balkaur Singh Appeals Govt to Support

Balkaur Singh, the father of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, also visited the martyrs family and offered his condolences. He also emphasised the concerns about the lack of substantial support to the families of martyrs. He also criticised the Agniveer scheme, calling it exploitive and urged the central and state government provide support to Lovepreets family, including Compensation and financial support.

These young men risk their lives to protect the nation, but their families are often left to fend for themselves, he added.
