Rhea Chakraborty, Bollywood actress, has once again made headlines for her comeback to the film industry. Yes…yes…the actress is making headlines again. This time it is for something more than before and not her acting.
Now she has been linked to a massive Rs 500 crore app scam. She is being considered among a group of influencers. They have promoted an app that allegedly duped users for their hard-earned money.
As per a reliable news agency, Actor Rhea Chakraborty, comedian Bharti Singh, and YouTuber Elvish Yadav are questioned in a case linked to the ‘HiBox mobile app’, which lured thousands with a promise of high investment returns. Several other social media influencers have also been summoned in connection with the ₹500 crore scam.
The investigation was launched after Police received many complaints from people who claimed that they had invested money in the app after seeing a promotional video from their favorite social media influencer/YouTuber.
Several influencers who did endorse the app have received legal notices for their involvement. The mastermind behind the app has already been arrested, and Rs 18 crore has been recovered from his accounts.
With such a high-profile scam unraveling, all eyes are on how deep this celebrity connection goes and what further developments await in this controversy.
The officer handling the case holds that through the application, the accused promised guaranteed returns of one to five percent daily, amounting to 30 to 90 percent in a month.
How the scam worked:
The HiBox app was launched in February 2024. It managed to trick over 30,000 people into investing money. The app paid investors the promised returns till June. Then it started withholding payments and withdrawals citing technical glitches, GST issues, legal issues, etc. The main accused in the scam, Sivaram (30), a Chennai resident, has already been arrested, police said.
Rhea Chakraborty has also been the center of many controversies in the past years. The actress was allegedly accused of being directly involved in her boyfriend, an emerging top actor, Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
