    ‘120 Bahadur’: The Untold Story of Rezang La Brave Soldiers

    After a long wait, Farhan Akhtar has announced his comeback to acting with the film ‘120 Bahadur’. This new project has generated considerable excitement among the fans and critics alike. The ‘120 Bahadur’ film will showcase the legendary battle of Rezang La. Akhtar known for his diverse roles and direction shared a powerful poster of the film on social media, creating a lot of buzz.

    Directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai who directed Dhaakad (2022 Indian action film featuring Kangana Ranaut), is now working on the film ‘120 Bahadur’ in Ladakh. The film portrays the Battle of Rezang La which was fought during the Sino-Indian War of 1962. 

    Aktar’s portrayal of Major Singh in ‘120 Bahadur’ is expected to showcase his immense courage and strategic skills. The actor, known for his exemplary acting skills, expressed his gratitude to Singh’s family for allowing him to depict this legendary person with respect and authenticity.

    History of the Battle of Rezang La and the Charlie Company

    The Battle of Rezang La is a remarkable episode in Indian military history. The battle took place on the southern eastern ridge of Chushul Valley. At an altitude of 16,000 feet, temperatures in the valley can drop to minus 30 degrees Celsius. 

    In this harsh environment, which is unbearable for a normal human being, a small contingent of Indian soldiers from ‘Charlie Company’ of the 13th Battalion Kumaon Regiment defended their position against a larger Chinese army force. These outnumbered brave soldiers showed extraordinary bravery despite facing extreme bitter, cold temperatures and with old weapons.

    What Challenges Did Charlie Company Face? 

    The Charlie Company commanded by Major Shaitan Singh Bhati faced tough conditions in the Chushul Valley. The soldiers mostly Ahirs from Gurgaon (now Gurugram) and Mewat in Haryana were poorly equipped with outdated World War II-era equipment. 303 rifles and did not have enough artillery support. The harsh environment and limited supplies made their mission even harder.

    How Did Charlie Company Defense Impact the Battle?

    Charlie Company managed to inflict heavy losses to the Chinese forces with estimate of killing of over 1,000 Chinese soldiers. Out of the 120 Indian soldiers, 114 martyrs sacrificed their lives while fighting remarkably with bravery. Additionally, they displayed remarkable courage in their struggle.

    Who is the Unsung Warrior Major Shaitan Singh Bhati?

    Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, a Param Vir Chakra Awardee plays a key role in the Battle of Rezang La. His bravery and leadership were crucial in the defense of Rezang La. He served in the Indian Army and fought bravely in the 1962 Sino-Indian War at Rezang La in Ladakh.

    For his bravery and courage, he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest gallantry award for bravery. On November 18, 1962, enemy injured him in the battle, and he died a martyr.

    The director filmed the movie ‘120 Bahadur’ in Ladakh. The movie aims to present an authentic representation of the tough conditions and challenges faced by the soldiers.

    The story of Rezang La also includes the incredible stories of survival and escape. Naib Subedar Ram Chander was one of the few soldiers whom the Chinese army captured as a prisoner. Moreover, after six months, they finally released him.

    Furthermore, Havaldar Nihal Singh, with the help of a faithful dog escaped from captivity. Although some people question the details of the story, it still remains a testament to the extraordinary circumstances and the unbreakable spirit of the soldiers.
