    ‘Antrum’: The Deadliest Movie Ever Made is a 2018 Canadian horror movie that captivated audiences with its chilling curse story that blurred the minute lines between fiction and reality. Directed by David Amito and Michael Laicini, the film combines elements of satire and horror to tell a story revolving around a supposedly cursed movie from the late 1970s.

    The plot of the movie ‘Antrum’ opens with a mockumentary introduction by detailing the origin and sinister vibe of the film within the film, titled ‘Antrum’. This fictional film is said to have mysteriously appeared at various film festivals in 1979, leaving a series of strange incidents and deaths. 

    According to the story, people who watched Antrum met a tragic fate, giving rise to the legend of an evil curse attached to the film.

    The plot of ‘Antrum’ revolves around two siblings who venture into a sinister forest to perform a ritual to save the soul of their dead pet.

    Unknowingly, the ritual takes them to the Antrum, where it is believed the devil ended up after being thrown out of heaven as they dig a hole into hell. The horror and mental terror unravel, connects their destinies with the cursed movie viewers.

    According to Antrum’s mockumentary section, the film’s popularity stems from its supposed connection to real-life tragedies. The narrative claims that after Antrum was anonymously submitted to film festivals. In contrast, several programmers and audience members died prematurely under mysterious circumstances.  

    For example, Janet Hilberg is said to have had a fatal seizure after watching the film. While Tom Stylum died of electrocution and Joe Barringer was stung by a stonefish. These incidents underscore the film’s supposed curse.

    In Budapest in 1988, a sudden fire at a movie theatre caused the deaths of 56 people. When ‘Antrum’ was shown fire destroyed the building. The film reel remained safe and untouched by fire, which made it famous.

    In 1993 in San Francisco, during a screening of the film people were scared of the curse and got trapped in the theatre. Some people died in a stampede that ensued, including a pregnant woman. These events, which are fictional in the film, add fear and interest to the story. 

    The Truth Behind the Fictional Curse

    ‘Antrum: The Deadliest Movie Ever Made’ talks about a cursed film. But it’s important to know that the events in the movie are not true and only fictional.

    The film directors David Amito and Michael Laicini have admitted that they intended to create an immersive horror experience. They blurred the lines between reality and fiction. Despite the claims made in the film, there is no evidence to prove the existence of an actual curse associated with ‘Antrum’.
