Love is one of the most adorable emotions, with many rooting for it. Most of us have ‘shipped’ famous celebrities who go together like bread & butter and rejuvenate our faith in the truth of love. However, despite our well-wishes, these Hollywood couples could not go the metaphorical miles, and their union was cut short, be it due to celebrity fame, incompatibility or other issues. These seemingly perfect couples eventually ended their relationships but went on to find love with different people. Here are our favorite ‘dream celebrity couples’ which left the fans stunned and heartbroken:

    Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck

Affectionately, dubbed by fans as “Bennifer”, JLo and Affleck were romantically involved twice. Their first outing as a couple ended in 2004 with Jennifer pinning the blame on the immense scrutiny the couple faced from the media. The duo was set to be married in 2003, but their wedding date was moved just four days prior to the scheduled datee. They called it quits four months later in 2004.

However, the sparks would rekindle once again 17 years later as the two started dating in 2021 during the pandemic. A year later, they got engaged again and finally tied the knot in a cozy gathering at a wedding chapel in Las Vegas. Now, the couple has filed for divorce after 2 years of marriage.

Before Brad and Angelina, there was the alluring pairing of Brad and Jennifer. The duo was one of the most high-profile relationships of the early 2000s. The actors were introduced to each other by their managers and secretly dated for a few months before making their relationship public on the red carpet of the Emmy awards in 1999. The duo got married in 2000 in a wedding estimated to have cost around $1 million.

However, after 5 years of marriage, the couple filed for divorce in March 2005. Soon after, Brad started dating “Mr. And Mrs. Smith” co-star Angelina Jolie while Aniston moved on to be with actor Justin Theroux. Following their split, the duo jointly released a statement saying that the split was the result of “much thoughtful consideration” and that they parted ways on good terms.

    Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield

As far as dreamy celebrity romances go, none could be better suited for the big screen than the pairing of Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. The two first met on the set of The Amazing Spider Man, in which the two played the on-screen couple of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. Just like Tobey Macguire and Kirsten Dunst way back in 2002, the Spiderman actors fell in love off-screen as well and went on to date each other for four years, during which they filmed another Spider-Man movie. According to reports, the two ended their relationship in 2015 on good terms and can still sometimes be seen spending time in each other’s company as friends. Stone is now married to Dave McCrary, whom she met on the set of Saturday Night Live.

    Amy Poehler & Will Arnett

The long-lasting relationship between Amy Poehler and Will Arnett was one of those pairings that would reaffirm anyone’s faith in love. The pair first met in the early 90s after the Arrested Development actor saw the SNL alum’s improv group in New York. He reportedly developed a crush on Poehler, however they were not romantically involved until 2000 when they were re-introduced to each other by mutual friends. The two worked together on several occasions, also making guest appearances on each other’s respective shows, Arrested Development (Arnett) and Parks and Recreation (Poehler).

They were married in 2003 and would enjoy a cute and amicable marriage right up until 2012. The comedic power couple broke their fans’ hearts by announcing their separation. Arnett and Poehler finalized their divorce in 2016 and continue to co-parent their two sons.

    Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams

It was the classic enemies-to-lovers romance between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. Their steaming chemistry heated up the theatres in 2004’s “The Notebook”.  However, the story was reportedly different behind the scenes as the movie’s director, Nick Castevetes, revealed that the pair would have screaming matches with each other on the set. Therefore, their announcement came as a surprise. They embraced their pairing on stage while recreating their sizzling hot kissing scene from the movie at the MTV awards in 2005.

However, the celebrity couple called it quits after dating for nearly two years citing the “Hollywood Fickleness” as the cause behind their break-up. Post their break-up, Gosling has been in a relationship with Eva Mendes since 2011, and McAdams has been dating screenwriter Jamie Linden since 2016.

Tim Burton & Helena Bonham Carter

One of the most peculiar celebrity pairings in Hollywood, the Muppet Master and Harry Potter’s Bellatrix Lestrange dated each other for nearly 14 years without marriage. The duo also welcomed 2 children during their relationship. According to reports, Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter shared one of the most eccentric relationships in Hollywood. The couple first met on the set of Planet of the Apes and worked together on some of the most beloved movies such as Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Alice in Wonderland.

They never tied the knot, the couple also never lived jointly. Instead, they lived next door to each other in Belsize Park in London, with their houses connected to each other by a hallway.

The couple reportedly split amicably in 2014, deciding to part ways as friends and co-raising their children.

    Chris Pratt & Anna Faris

Chris Pratt and Anna Faris were one of the celebrity pairings believed to last forever. The two first met on the set of Take Me Home Tonight, while Faris was still married to her first husband Ben Indra. However, the two did not pursue a relationship until after Faris’ split with Indra in 2007. Things moved quickly however as the two got engaged in 2008 and reportedly got married in 2009 in an intimate wedding in Bali.

While their relationship seemed unbreakable on the outside, the former couple announced their separation in 2017 after 8 years of marriage. Even after separation however, the two continue to show support for each other and have been co-raising their son Jack since. The Mom actor has now been engaged to Michael Barrett while Pratt tied the knot with Katherine Schwarzenegger in 2019.
