Bollywood Actors Under Threat: A Growing Concern

    Read Later

The recent attack on Saif Ali Khan has sent shockwaves through the Bollywood fraternity, but unfortunately, it is not an isolated incident. Several Bollywood actors have received death threats and attacks in the past, highlighting the growing concern for their safety.

On 16 January, around 2:30 am, he was attacked with a sharp weapon by an unknown assailant who entered his house with the intention of theft. The actor was rushed to Llavati Hospital for treatment and is now out of danger. The Bandra Police have taken three people into custody in connection with the incident.

A History of Threats and Attacks

This is not the first time a Bollywood actor has faced a life-threatening situation. Here are some notable instances:

Salman Khan: The actor has received death threats on multiple occasions. In 2024, bullets were fired at his house, and the Lawrence Bishop gang claimed responsibility. As a result, Salman’s security was beefed up, and he even imported a bulletproof car for his safety.
Shahrukh Khan received death threats, prompting him to file a police complaint. The threatening call was traced to Raipur, and the police tightened security outside his residence, Mannat.
Sonu Nigam: The singer was attacked during a music event and hospitalized after being pushed by some individuals. His brother was also assaulted during the incident.

In the 1997 murder case of film producer Mukesh Duggal, Manisha Koirala found herself mired in trouble when gangster Abu Salem named her in producer Mukesh Duggal and her secretary Ajit Deewani’s murders. The filmmaker is well known for backing films like Dil Ka Kya Kasoor, Khilona, Saathi and Fateh. For the unversed, the producer was killed at Seven Bungalows, Andheri for his connection with Monica Bedi in 1997.

The test, conducted at the Bangalore Forensic Science Laboratory on December 28, 2005, was aired on a private news channel.  According to the footage, Salem claimed that Koirala had ordered the killing of Duggal.

However, senior criminal lawyer Majeed Memon has pointed out that evidence obtained through Marco-analysis testing is not admissible in court. “The results of such tests cannot be considered conclusive evidence,” Memon stated.

Salem also made another startling revelation during the test, alleging that Anees Ibrahim, brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, had ordered the murder of music mogul Gulshan Kumar in 1997. Kumar was shot dead outside a temple in Mumbai.

The drug-analysis test has sparked a debate about the use of such techniques in criminal investigations. While some argue that it can provide valuable leads, others question its reliability and admissibility in court.

The Mumbai Police have remained tight-lipped about the developments, refusing to comment on the matter. The case remains a sensitive topic, with many in the Bollywood fraternity watching the developments closely.

Two prominent filmmakers, Mahesh Bhatt and Rakesh Roshan, have had harrowing experiences with gangsters, highlighting the darker side of the industry.

    Mahesh Bhatt’s Narrow Escape

In November 2014, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt became the target of gangster Ravi Pujari, who had allegedly issued a contract for his assassination. Acting swiftly on intelligence, the police apprehended nine individuals involved in the plot, leading to their subsequent conviction. Bhatt’s prompt action and the police’s swift response likely saved his life.

    Rakesh Roshan’s Terrifying Encounter

On January 21, 2000, renowned filmmaker Rakesh Roshan narrowly escaped a fatal attack when two unidentified assailants fired at him near his office in Mumbai. Despite sustaining injuries to his arm and chest, Roshan survived, and the attackers fled the scene. The incident sent shockwaves through the industry, highlighting the vulnerability of celebrities to violent attacks.

These incidents serve as a grim reminder of the risks faced by Bollywood personalities. The industry’s high profile and wealth have made it an attractive target for organized crime. While the police have made efforts to provide security, the threat remains, and celebrities must remain vigilant to protect themselves.
