    20 years of Lakshya Movie: War Drama Film and Journey of Self Discovery

    ‘Lakshya’, a 2004 war drama film directed by Farhan Akhtar, continues to engage audiences with its amazing story revolving around the Kargil War.

    The title of movie ‘Lakshya’ is a Hindi word that means ‘Goal’ in English, reflecting the journey of self-discovery and transformation amid conflict and determination.

    The movie plot revolves around Karan Shergill, played by Hrithik Roshan, a young man coming from a privileged background with a carefree lifestyle.

    Karan’s father played by Actor Boman Irani always coaxes him to find meaning in his life. 

    Karan’s laid-back attitude contrasts with Romila Dutta (Rumi). Rumi is an ambitious and serious reporter and an activist portrayed well by Preity Zinta.

    Romila Dutta character was based on the real-life Indian reporter Barkha Dutt. She went to Kargil to cover news of the war in 1999. 

    After learning about one of his friend’s decisions to join the army, Karan’s applies to the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA) on the impulse.

    Karan’s father becomes angry with him for his decision to choose IMA, but this anger made Karan more determined to join IMA. 

    He gets selected for the IMA, but he finds it difficult to cope with the strict discipline of the Army. He is often punished by his seniors. 

    Unable to handle the pressure, Karan runs away from the academy. When Romi learns about this, it leads to a breakup from her side. Karan later decides to return to IMA to complete his training with utmost dedication and receives a commission in the Indian Army. 

    The movie further portrays how Karan embarked on a campaign. He repelled Pakistani troops who secretly entered India-occupied mountaintops and attacked the Indian Army.
