Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri and Ammy Virk are currently making a great buzz with the release of the trailer for their upcoming movie, Bad Newz.
The trailer showcases a state of confusion from Tripti Dimri as she discovers that she is pregnant and unsure about the baby father’s identity. As the story continues, she takes a paternity test and finds that both Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk are the fathers.
In the trailer, the situation of two fathers is explained by the doctor, who describes this as a rare case of Heteroparental superfecundation.Â
Let’s understand what Heteroparental superfecundation is.
Heteroparental superfecundation is a rare phenomenon, that only occurs when two eggs from the same menstrual cycle are fertilized by sperm from different partners which results in both twins with different fathers. This biological process is both rare and fascinating.Â
How rare is this biological phenomenon?
Heteroparental superfecundation is an uncommon biological phenomenon, with only 19 documented cases till now. The phenomenon is mostly found in cows, as they are not monogamous like humans.
In humans, it can only happen when two separate sexual encounters with different partners occur over a short period of time.
The biological word superfecundation is derived from the term ‘Fecund’, which means the ability to produce offspring.
On the other hand, Homoparental superfecundation is a process of fertilising two eggs by the same sperm which leads to twins.
So how does Heteroparental superfecundation happen?
In the female body, sperm can survive up to five days, and an egg can stay viable for about two days after ovulation.
If a woman has sexual intercourse with two different partners during this time, it is possible for two eggs to be fertilized by sperm from each partner, which leads to Heteroparental superfecundation.
This whole bio-proceeding is also known as superfetation, when a second pregnancy happens during an existing one.
