After hearing the news of Virat Kohli playing Ranji Trophy after a long break, expectations peaked. But tensions arose as Virat Kohli missed his first ODI match against England at Jamtha in Nagpur due to sore knees. Fans eagerly expect him to return to play the next match at Cuttack.
Virat Kohli Enters with Sore Knees
Kohli entered the stadium with his sore knees for the ODI against England. While everyone was expecting Kohli to have sixes and fours at the ground, he walked slowly accompanied by his physio to the stadium. Kohli’s injury has surfaced after a practice session.
Rohit Sharma was the First to Reveal
Kohli’s sore knee condition and his decision to not play the series were taken late on Wednesday night. Rohit Sharma confirmed his absence from the match due to his leg injury. This situation would not have created tensions among the Indian team’s fans if the Champions were not approaching.
As the main batsman of the team was made to rest, team players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana were made to play the match in his absence. Their fans would have never expected them to play at the cost of Kohli’s leg injury. A team insider told news sources, “His right knee was fine during the practice, but once we got back to the hotel it swelled up”. He also added that the injury doesn’t seem that serious and there are high chances of him to play the next ODI match at Cuttack.
Shreyas’ Iyer’s Quote on Social Media
As the decision of Virat not to play the match was taken on Wednesday night, Shreyas Iyer was immediately informed about Kohli’s absence in the next day’s match. Regarding this, he quoted on Social media ” I was watching a movie last night. I thought I could extend my night. Then I got a call from the skipper saying that you may play because Virat has got a sore knee. Then I hurried back home and went off to sleep straight away.”.
Kohli has not been taken to scans yet and it is still a question mark on whether Kohli will leave for Bengaluru for a quick check-up at the National Cricket Academy or will accompany his team for the next match at Cuttack.
Virat Kohli’s Previous Injuries
Well, this is not the first time that Kohli has been injured, he has had previous injuries also during important matches. The last time Kohli was not available for a match was in 2022 due to an upper back spasm and he could not play a test match against South Africa. Then in 2021, he could not play a warm-up match against select country IX due to a stiff back. Then in 2017 due to a right shoulder injury while playing for the Ranji last time, he could not play the fourth test match against Australia.
Jasprit Is also Injured
This time not only Kohli, another important player of the cricket team Jasprit Burmah is also under rest due to back Spasms. Burmah could not play the final test against Australia due to this reason. According to Rohit Sharma’s statement regarding this, the team is awaiting the scan results. Then a decision will be taken upon whether the pacer will be playing the third ODI series against England or not.
