Historic Win: India Clinches Women’s Asian Championships Trophy Against China

In a significant victory, Indias womens hockey team clinched the womens Asian Championships trophy 2024 with a 1-0 victory over China on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Notably, the 8th edition of the Womens Asian Champions Trophy took place in Bihar. It was organized by the Asian Hockey Federation.
The series of the 8th edition began in Bihars Rajgir from Monday, November 11, 2024, to Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
Deepika Sehrawat was the standout player, who scored the only goal of the match in the 31st minute from a penalty corner, leading India to secure victory against China in the final match. She was the instrumental player who concluded the tournament with a top score of 11 goals.
Previously, India has also defeated China in the league stage with 3-0, while Japan placed 3rd, securing a 4-1 win over Malaysia in the third-place play-off.
This victory by team India marked the countrys third Asian Championship win, after their victories in 2016 and 2013. This makes team India share the distinction of being the most successful team in the tournaments history alongside South Korea. Both teams have three titles.
Marking this triumph, the Indian Hockey League took to their X (formerly Twitter) and mentioned, Champions Again, Team India clinches the Bihar Womens Asian Champions Trophy Rajgir 2024 title with a stellar 1-0 victory over China! The defending champions have shown their grit, skill, and determination, proving once again they are on top of Asia. Another remarkable triumph, another moment of glory! On the other hand, Japan secured the third position against Malaysia with 4-1 in the bronze medal in the earlier match.
Following this victory, Hockey India also announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh each for all players and Rs 1.5 lakh for all support staff. Additionally, the Asian Hockey Federation also announced to reward the podium finishers for the very first time in the tournaments history.
India will receive a substantial amount of $10,000, while China and Japan will receive $7000 and $5000, respectively.
In the semi-finals of the match of the Women’s Asian Championships, India secured a solid 2-0 victory over Japan. The match took place on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium.
Indias goal came in the last quarter of the game, when Navneet Kaur converted a penalty stroke in the 48th minute and Lalremsiami scored from field play in the 56th minute. However, despite Japans strong defense and multiple saves by goalkeeper Yu Kudo, Indian women managed to break through and secure victory in the final place.
