India-Qatar Business Forum Inaugurated in New Delhi

India-Qatar Business Forum was inaugurated, today i.e. 18th Feb., 2025 in New Delhi. His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Honble Minister of Commerce and Industry, State of Qatar, was the Guest of Honor at the inaugural session. On this occasion, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry (India), Piyush Goyal highlighted that India-Qatar future partnership will rest on the pillars of sustainability, technology, entrepreneurship and energy.
Qatar Vision 2030 and Indias Viksit Bharat 2047
Qatar Vision 2030 and Indias Viksit Bharat 2047 will together define a much bigger and brighter future for the people of the two countries. Minister Goyal highlighted that India today provides an oasis of stability, predictability and continuity. He shared that the partnership between the two countries rests on the foundation of trust, trade and tradition. He added that the terms of trade are undergoing a change, evolving from energy trade to emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, Internet of things (IOT), quantum conducting, semiconductors etc.
The entire world is going through a major shift in the context of geopolitical tensions, climate change,cybersecuritythreats and focus on localization around the world, Minister noted.
He also stated that India and Qatar complement each other and can work together for prosperity and a better future. Shri Goyal added that together we are set for a transition in terms of trade, investments and highlighted the 2 MoU signed between Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and another between Invest Qatar and Invest India.
Minister Goyal also announced the elevation of the Joint Working Group on trade and commerce to the Ministerial level. Quoting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Minister Goyal shared: Today be it major nations or global platforms, the confidence in India is stronger than ever before. He urged the business leaders to work together with the same spirit and confidence. India offers a vibrant economy, a rich demography with young population, reforms in every sphere of business, focus on ease of doing business and quality at the centerpiece of our industrial evolution.
India today provides an oasis of stability, predictability and continuity. Shri Goyal also invited companies from Qatar to be a part of Indias journey of growth in investments, manufacturing, renewable energy, expansion of smart cities and infrastructure development.
In 2008, Qatar had embarked on an ambitious journey with the unveiling of a long-term national visiona transformative roadmap to sustain long-term knowledge-based socio-economic prosperity. Launched under the leadership of then-Heir Apparent His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 encapsulated Qatars developmental aspirations to build the homeland and the citizen under four interconnected pillars: Human Development, Social Development, Economic Development and Environmental Development.
To translate this vision into reality, the State of Qatar formulated three national development strategies, each building on its predecessor and setting measurable medium-term objectives aligned with the overarching 2030 goals.
As Qatar continues its transformative journey, the concerted efforts of the government, private sector and civil society institutions will continue to be instrumental in turning this bold vision into a reality, paving the way for a prosperous, knowledge-based society that honors its rich heritage while embracing modern dynamism and innovation.
Prior to this, on the previous day, PM Modi had personally received Qatars Amir at Delhi airport ahead of key bilateral talks. In a special gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday received the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad AL Thani, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital. The two leaders had shared a warm hug as they met each other.
The Qatar Emir is on a two-day state visit to India. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, senior officials and a business delegation. He had earlier come to India on a State Visit in March 2015. The Amir also held discussions with President Droupadi Murmu.
India and Qatar have deep-rooted historical ties of friendship, trust and mutual respect. In recent years, ties between the two countries, including those in trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people ties, have continued to strengthen.
The Indian community residing in Qatar forms the largest expatriate community in the country and is appreciated for its positive contribution in the progress and development of Qatar. This visit of Emir of Qatar will provide further momentum to the growing multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
