Gurindervir Singh, a 24-year-old sprinter from Punjab, has etched his name in Indian athletics history by clocking a remarkable 10.20 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the Indian Grand Prix 1 held in Bengaluru on March 28, 2025. This feat surpasses the previous national record of 10.23 seconds set by Manikanta Hoblidhar in October 2023.
Gurindervir’s path to this achievement has been marked by dedication and resilience. In June 2024, he clinched the gold medal at the 63rd Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula with a time of 10.32 seconds. Reflecting on his journey, Gurindervir overcame significant health challenges, including a damaged intestinal lining that led to severe weight loss. Through traditional medicines and unwavering determination, he made a full recovery and returned to peak performance.
Gurindervir’s coach, Sarabjeet Singh Happy, expressed immense pride in his protg’s accomplishment. He emphasized the importance of consistent training and the need for better athletic facilities to nurture emerging talents. Looking ahead, Gurindervir aims to further improve his timing and represent India on international platforms, aspiring to break the 10-second barrier in the near future.
