The first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction 2025 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was marked by intense bidding battles. Franchises competed vigorously to secure top talent for the upcoming season. A total expenditure of IN 467.95 crore was spent for 68 players selected out of the 577 available, highlighting remarkable buys and strategic investments. Below are the main highlights from Day 1:
Rishabh Pant: The wicketkeeper-batter was the star of the day, commanding a staggering IN 27 crore from the Lucknow Super Giants. Pant’s acquisition was one of the most talked-about deals, reflecting his immense value to the team.
Shreyas Iyer: Another prominent player, Shreyas Iyer, was acquired by Punjab Kings for IN 26.75 crore. Iyer’s experience and leadership qualities were highly coveted, making him one of the top buys.
Venkatesh Iyer: Kolkata Knight Riders secured the services of Venkatesh Iyer for IN 23.75 crore. Known for his all-round capabilities, Iyer is expected to be a significant addition to the team.
Arshdeep Singh: The left-arm pacer was another big name picked up by Punjab Kings for IN 18 crore, enhancing their bowling attack.

The most aggressive buyer of the day, Punjab Kings spent a total of IN 88 crore on eight players, including Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Their strategy seems focused on building a balanced team with a strong mix of experienced and young players.
Gujarat Titans focused on strengthening their batting lineup with the acquisition of Jos Buttler and Mohammed Siraj for IN 18 crore, aiming to create a formidable top order.
Mumbai Indians made significant investments in their bowling attack by securing Trent Boult and Jitesh Sharma, ensuring a well-rounded squad.

On the second day of the auction, 32 players will be presented. The expedited process will be commenced from Player No. 117. Teams will continue to strategize and fill their rosters to build competitive lineups for the upcoming season.
