Kamala Harris presidential campaign has raised an impressive $500 million amount, since she entered the contest on July 21. Four insiders noted that this record-breaking amount shows a marked surge in donor enthusiasm as the crucial Nov 5 election draws near.
Campaign funding is vital to mobilize voters, influence undecided supporters, and help in financing advertisements.
Kamala Harris entered the election race after Joe Biden stepped down from the spot on the Democratic ticket. It also led a surge in funding that had been declining after Bidens poor performance in a debate against Republican Donald Trump.
As the partys nominee, Haris swiftly garnered support and raised $200 million in her first week of campaigning. Additionally, a sign of growing enthusiasm for Harris was evident from overnight TV ratings, which revealed that 20 million Americans watched the first night of the Democratic National Convention. It surpassed the record of previous month Republican convention that had 18 million public viewing.
Harris team raised $310 million in July, marking the total funds $1 billion, raised by her and Biden, prior to his withdrawal. Harris campaign is said to be the fastest campaign to achieve this milestone.
Former President Donald Trump had the fundraising of $318.7 million in July. However, this amount still outraised Biden in the previous quarter. By the middle of August, Harris campaign was benefiting from many small donations and active supporters at rallies.
Former US President Barack Obama pledged to assist Harris with further fundraising efforts and has participated in two high-profile fundraisers with Biden.
Harris has continuously described herself as an underdog, throughout her campaign against Trump. She maintained her status to inspire her supporters and prevent complacency.
