As the year 2025 brought the ‘Generation Beta’, India got its first baby of this gen on New Year’s Day-January 1, 2025 in Mizoram’s Aizawl. According to the All-India Radio News, the baby boy named ‘Frankie Remruatdika Zadeng’, was born at 12:03 am on January 1 at Durtlang’s Synod hospital in Aizawl, making him the first birth of Generation Beta.
The baby weighed 3.12 kg at the time of his birth, marking the beginning of the new generation’s era. Sister Lalchhuanawmi of the hospital’s Lawmna Ward said that the baby boy was in good health and had no complications.
According to Akashvani News Aizawl, Frankie is the newest member of his family which comprises his older sister, mother Ramzirmawii, and father ZD Remruatsanga. The family lives in Aizawl’s Khatla East area. The mother expressed her happiness on having given the nation its first Beta baby.
Futurist Mark McCrindle coined the term ‘Gen Beta’ to define babies born between 2025 and 2039, saying that by 2035 they will make up for 16 per cent of the global population.
“The kids born between 2025 and 2039 will be known as Gen Beta. The children born this year are expected to account for 13% to 16% of the world population. These kids will live in a world dominated by artificial intelligence and virtual reality, witnessing many technological advancements.”
Generation Alpha concludes in 2024, making way for Generation Beta as 2025 marks the start of this new era. In this emerging generation; children born on and after January 1, 2025, will now be termed as Generation Beta or Gen Beta. The last time the world went through a generational shift was in 2010 when Gen Alpha babies were born, with 2024 marking the last year of that generation. The year 2025 will now welcome a whole new generation of babies who will shape the world in their own ways. The kids born between 2025 and 2039 will be known as Gen Beta.
These kids will live in a world dominated by artificial intelligence and virtual reality, witnessing many technological advancements. However, experts are worried about this generation as they believe this generation might lack creativity and interpersonal skills. According to experts, Gen Beta will work more in the direction of sustainability as they will inherit a world grappling with challenges like climate change, population explosion and other environmental concerns.
Why is this generation called Gen Beta? ….The name Gen Beta is taken from the Greek alphabet, following Gen Alpha, marking the beginning of a new naming convention. Experts state that naming reflects the distinct way these generations are being shaped by an increasingly tech-generated world.
What are the key traits of Gen Beta? Being born in the digital-centric era, this generation will grow up in a world of constant connectivity, building friendships, learning and working in an era where digital interaction is the norm. This generation will reportedly find a balance between being connected and expressing themselves.
Mark McCrindle, social researcher and futurist, believes that Gen Beta will build safe and thoughtful digital identities with their parent’s guidance to develop a strong sense of individuality, both online and in real life. Gen Beta is expected to grow up in an environment that fosters curiosity and inclusivity.

Gen Alpha may have just entered their teens and the workforce is still trying to accommodate the whimsical Gen Z. But there are Gen Beta babies on the way now. The Gen Beta era has officially descended upon us!
The last time the world collectively went through a generational shift, literally, was in 2010 when Gen Alpha zoomed into the world. 2024 marked the last year of Gen Alpha babies giving way to 2025. New Year’s day for 2025 then, is extra special as it marks the start of a whole new generation of babies, many of whom will be shaping the world in their own ways. But to shape the world, they will first have to know the world, dynamic at its best, volatile and on the decline at its worst.
What’s in store for Gen Beta
If you, though your life is a little too tech-driven, imagine a whole generation of babies being nurtured through a tech-driven childhood. The necessary evil of today, artificial intelligence, is well on its way to becoming absolutely indispensable. AI-driven tech then, will be shaping the key pillars of Gen Beta’s lives, right out of the womb. Be it education, development or home environments, we may just be looking at a whole new generation of AI-raised babies — in essence we mean.
Irrespective of whichever side of the climate change debate you fall on, sustainability will no longer be an ‘option’ per se for Gen Beta. Futurist Mark McCrindle in his blog shares, “(Gen Beta) will inherit a world grappling with major societal challenges” and the state of the environment will be the foundation of this.
Considering all goes well, many of these babies are projected to live long enough to see the turn of the century even, shared generational researcher and author Jack Dorsey with NBC News.
Some percentage of Gen Alpha is still in their diapers and some, the oldest of them, have just kickstarted their teens. Following the timeline, the oldest Gen Alpha babies are 14 years of age. So, to be fair, they are yet to be given the platform to essentially make their mark on the world.
One of a kind, the generation doesn’t take no for an answer, always prioritizes themselves and seems to be eternally in the swing of YOLO. And while this may appear footloose and fancy-free and too casual a vibe for young adults marching on into the global workforce, maybe the preceding generations could take a leaf or two out of their book when it comes to self-love, or at least the eternal pursuit of it.
Coming back to Gen Beta, here’s to a new generation, and maybe a new world! Generation Beta , or Gen Beta for short, will be born from 2025 to 2039, according to Australian trends and demographic analysis company McCrindle, which also coined the previous cohort Gen Alpha (2010-2024). For babies born from 2025 to 2039, ‘the digital and physical worlds will be seamless’. While Generation Alpha has experienced the rise of smart technology and artificial intelligence, Generation Beta will live in an era where AI and automation are fully embedded in everyday life — from education and workplaces to health care and entertainment. They will only know a post-COVID world. These are not just new generations, but the first … that will be shaped by an entirely different world. This generation will also be the first to be born after the COVID-19 pandemic, but their families and older siblings will have been irrevocably shaped by the school shutdowns and social isolation.
It’s worth noting that in recent years, there’s been growing criticism regarding the naming and labelling of generations. Generational research has become a crowded arena. The field has been flooded with content that’s often sold as research but is more like clickbait or marketing mythology. The existing generational definitions can also be too broad and arbitrary to capture all the differences between the cohorts. A typical generation spans 15 to 18 years. As many critics of generational research point out, there is great diversity of thought, experience and behaviour within generations.
In fact, this generation of kids will likely be the first to experience autonomous transportation at scale, wearable health technologies and immersive virtual environments as standard aspects of daily life. A public health advisory says today’s parents face unique challenges that can impact their mental health. Some parents from older generations
