A shocking case of double murder has been reported from Badiyala village near Rampura Phul in Bathinda, Punjab. A senior citizen couple was found brutally murdered in their fields on Monday night, January 6, 2025.

    Preliminary Investigations

As per the preliminary investigations into the matter, the deceased are identified as Gias Singh, aged 66, and Amarjit Kaur, aged 62. Both of them were attacked with sharp-edged weapons, and severe injuries were found on their heads. The house of the couple was also found ransacked.

A team of police, along with CIA staff teams, reached the spot and began an investigation process. The motive behind the murder is unclear. However, the police have filed an FIR against the unknown suspects involved.

DIG (Deputy Inspector General) Harjit Singh, who oversees the Bathinda range, inspected the crime scene. He reported that the couple lived alone in a house located in their fields. The murder came to light late at night on Monday.

The police have taken their bodies into custody and initiated further legal proceedings. The investigations are also ongoing into the matter to determine the circumstances and motive behind this gruesome act.

    What SP Narinder Singh said?

Superintendent of police (SP) Narinder Singh has revealed that the couple’s son is working in Delhi. The son alerted villagers when his parents didn’t respond to the phone calls. A group of villagers reached their house and found them killed.

The body of the couple was found at the fields of their residence, with their bodies having multiple injuries over their heads.

He said that the investigation is underway to determine if the assailants barged into the house for robbery and killed the couple or if there is another angle involving personal enmity in the matter.

“Special teams have been formed to crack the case,” he added.

Additionally, the incidents of murder and robbery have remained a significant concern in Punjab. Law enforcement is also facing several challenges in apprehending these suspects, raising concerns for public security.
