Billionaire Elon Musk mocked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on a social media post after he dismissed the idea of Canada becoming part of the United States.
In a playful yet pointed manner, Musk said, “Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so it doesn’t matter what you say.”
This is to be noted that Musk’s response was followed by Trudeau’s comment on X, where he mentioned, “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States. Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner.”
Trudeau’s Resignation
The neighboring country has been facing a significant upheaval as Trudeau announced his resignation after being in office for nearly 10 years as the leader of the Liberal Party on Monday, January 6, 2025.
However, he will remain Prime Minister until a new leader is chosen.
Trudeau’s decision comes amid rising discontent over his leadership and internal party turmoil. Meanwhile, just hours after his resignation comes.
The US President-elect, Trump, called for Canada’s annexation and proposed the idea of making Canada the 51st state of the United States. Though his remarks were delivered lightheartedly, it sparked a heated debate across the nations. Many Canadian officials remain silent over Trump’s comments.
Trump’s Proposal for Canada’s Annexation
The US President-elect Donald Trump said that this merger will not only eliminate tariffs but also significantly reduce taxes for citizens of both nations.
“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st state,” he stated, suggesting that this union between the countries would create a more robust economic and political alliance.
“The United States can no longer suffer the massive trade deficits and subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this and resigned. If Canada “merged” with the U.S., “there would be no tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese ships that are constantly surrounding them,” he added.
Musk’s Response to Carleton Pierre Poilievre
This is to be noted that Elon Musk has also recently responded to Pierre Poilievre, Canadian leader of the Conservative Party and MP for Carleton, over her remarks on the matter.
Taking to X, MP Poilievre said, “Canada will never be the 51st state. Period. We are a great and independent country. We are the best friends in the U.S and spent billions of dollars and hundreds of lives helping Americans retaliate against Al-Qaeda’s 9/11 attacks. Canada supply the U.S. with billions of dollars of high-quality and totally reliable energy well below market prices and buy hundreds of billions of dollars of American goods.”
“Our weak and pathetic NDP-Liberal government has failed to make these obvious points. I will fight for Canada. When I am Prime Minister, we will rebuild our military and take back control of the border to secure both Canada and the U.S. We will take back control of our Arctic to keep Russia and China out. We will axe taxes, slash red tape, and rapidly green-light massive resource projects to bring home paychecks and production to our country. In other words, we will put Canada first.”
Responding to a post, Elon Musk replied, “A referendum of the people is the essence of democracy!”
