    California Governor Gavin Newsom Initiates Clean-up of Homeless Camps, Faces Backlash

    California Governor Gavin Newsom has taken matters into his own hands and actively addressing the ongoing issue of homeless camps problem in Los Angeles County. Recently, he voluntarily took to clean up homeless encampment in Mission Hilles, demonstrating his commitment to addressing the crisis.

    The direct action on the homeless encampment comes just two weeks after Newsom issued an executive order mandating that state officials dismantle homeless camps across the state. 

    The executive order aims to expedite the removal of unsanitary and dangerous encampments within their communities to provide people experiencing homelessness in the encampments with the care and supportive services they need.

    He tweeted, “No more excuses. We’ve provided the time. We’ve provided the funds. Now it’s time for locals to do their job”. 

    Newsom’s decisions show his dissatisfaction with how slowly things are moving and inefficiency of local responses.

    Homeless camps, also known as encampments or tent cities, are places where homeless people create temporary shelters. These camps usually arise because there aren’t affordable housing and shelter choices.

    A video is going viral on twitter which shows governor cleaning up a homeless encampment in Mission Hills.

    Newsom has dealt with criticism and challenges from different groups, especially regarding his active involvement in Mission Hills Homeless camps removals. 

    People online shared mixed reactions, thoughts, and opinions on State governor Newsom filming himself during a midday clean-up underneath an overpass in Los Angeles. 

    One Red wave Press took to X to appreciate Governor initiative and remarked, “I can actually respect this move by Newsom. I don’t like him at all but at least he is on the ground trying to fix the issue.”

    Another user disagrees and says, “Gavin Newsom is so fake! He could care less!”. A user wrote, “You don’t get credit for cleaning up a mess you caused.” Another X user quipped, “Cosplaying at clean up.” 

    On the other hand, another user claimed that he should be downtown where the homeless live on the streets.  

    While another user tweeted, “Probably the most productive thing he’s done as Governor even if it’s all for show. We all know that was all for the media and he didn’t really do much.”
