    Teachers’ Day is celebrated to honor the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. When he assumed the office of President in 1962, his students wanted to commemorate his birthday; hence, the beginning of this tradition, which continues He suggested that the day should be celebrated in recognition of the effort teachers put in across the country, not him. Since then, the young ones have been celebrating Teachers’ Day to express a word of appreciation for the great services of the teachers in nurturing the young generation. 

    Who is Dr. Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan? 

    Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a distinguished scholar and statesman, was the second President of India from 1962 to 1967. He was born on 5 September 1888 in Tamil Nadu and was one of the leading philosophers, along with being an advocate for education. His numerous contributions in the stream of academia, such as being an eminent philosophy teacher at Oxford University and the Vvice Chancellorships at Andhra University and at the Banaras Hindu University, to name a few, brought him national and international fame.

    Teachers’ Day has special importance because it celebrates teaching as a profession and the role of teachers in the lives of the students. This day’s celebration endorses the belief that Dr. Radhakrishnan had for educators and that teachers should be honored. Moreover, it also emphasizes the importance of education and how society needs to acknowledge the teaching fraternity.
